Due to circumstance, I have a friend (American lass, who does radio traffic reports in Buffalo) who would like to connect her laptop (a MacBook of a few years) to the internet through her mobile phone.
Is there anyone young enough to be able to explain how to do this?
Thanks.

My daughter did this a few months back.
I'll drag her off facespace and ask her....

It tends to be called tethering and how its done in my experience is dependent on what mobile phone network your with and what type of mobile phone you have.
For instance on mine, it will do it, but I'd have to pay O2 an extra £7.50 a month for the privalage so its not something I've had a need to bother with. But had a done, I'd just connect it up to the laptop and in the network settings I have an option to "set up Internet Tethering" and away I'd go.

It seems it's a USB connector into the phone.(on hers it plugged into the charger socket)
Then the drivers (if installed) will detect what's connected and open itself.
Otherwise a disc with the driver on will be needed.
If the device is web enabled, then the cable is all you need.
Plug it in and off you go....
Hope that's some use.
Seems blue teeth might help too, all greek to me.

My daughter has unlimited interweb on her phone for a tenner a month, however not full web on her phone, but via laptop (which t-mobile don't approve of, but don't block) she got unlimited everything, as well as free texts and a tenner's worth of calls.
