Barrow Female Rugby League Club
Barrow Female Rugby League Club has recently been established to encourage ladies and girls to play touch rugby league. Secretary Louise Scarr said, "We are looking for players who want to come along and try the game. Anyone over 12 years of age can come along to training but theot compete until they are 14. All abilities, shapes and sizes are welcome whether you want to take it very seriously or just have a bit of fun."
During the winter the club meet on a Wednesday evening between 7.30pm and 9pm at Hoops in Thorncliffe Road, Barrow. It is hoped to eventually have teams in all the age groups from 7 years old to open age playing both touch and full contact rugby league.
Alan Goodings is a local community development coach based at Craven Park and he has been instrumental in setting the club up. “Sport England has always been impressed by the work we do in the communities and the way we encourage healthy physical activity through the sport. Barrow Ladies is a chance to not only have a go at rugby league but also to socialise, make friends, get healthy and most of all have fun whilst exercising.” Anyone wanting to find out more can contact Alan Goodings on 0779 4914938 or visit the dedicated Facebook Account.
