Make the Northern Rail Cup Groups larger. Giving you more home and away games. Also interlace the qualifying group games with the league fixtures so it is not treated as a warm up contest for the main event.

There's no even remotely possible candidate to step in so that's out of the question. Certainly noone from the RLC National whatsoever.

More NRC in theory makes sense but in practice doesn't because the Championship has more games so couldn't fit them in. If there were 10 teams in the Championship and 11 in Championship 1 then you could have 6 NRC games. This seems the lesser evil to clubs having fewer games, though possibly playing each other thrice and making NRC a knock out would be better?

Though the format is changing from 2012 anyway so this is just a one season necessary evil.

Probably the most joined up answer I've heard about the problem.

It would also have eliminated the unfair league situation where by some teams have an extra fixtures against weaker teams than others who might face stronger teams. Easy three points for some, not so easy for others. Hornets have got Gateshead at home twice, unless Thunder have made a massive step forward in the off season then I think and easy extra three points to us.

Swinton are faced with travelling to whitehaven twice for their extra away fixture, OK if you like driving I suppose.

If you look at the last two fixtures on each clubs list of fixtures they are the extra games, so Oldham have two home games with South Wales Scorpions and two away games with us, Town. We have two away games at Doncaster.

The NR Cup isn't a competition geared for Champ 1 clubs as not many get past the group stages and the "larger" crowds tend to come in the knock-out stages and obviously the final plus the cash prize for the winners, so not many Champ 1 clubs look on this competition as a money maker.

It would have been better to do away with the NR Cup and let each club play each other 3 times giving 27 matches. With the odd number some would have had 1 extra home game than others who would have had an extra away game, obviously, but that could have been reversed in the following season. It would have given a much more meaningful season.

Whilst I agree the NRC is pointless, you cannot hack off a sponsor by cancelling "their" tournament and such a late stage. I twould affect all future sponsors as companies would be more reluctant to commit. Northern Rail would presumably want a refund or not pay money to boot.

Point taken but for the past 3 seasons the fixtures for our league have been very poor and if the RFL had had any intentions of improving our lot in this respect they would have done so by now. Instead they are now taking a look at it for 2012 but I am not holding my breath that we will see much change at our level.

Thinking about it logically, would there be 11 teams if someone wanted to step up? why not 12 or 14? Blackpool dropping out wouldn't give Bramley a ground.

There are teams capable of the stepping up but they all play in winter, so they obviously can't drop out of their division midseason and switch. When teams start switching to summer there hopefully will be a better structure as there won't be such a big gap

Can't see the problem. With the over use of loan players and the play off system to decide one promotion place every season is a lottery.With the use of loan players the team you play against one week can be considerably stronger later in the season. The play offs should at least ensure that the top two teams will win promotion.Under the old one division system used up to the fifties teams played every team in their county plus in Oldham's case 4or5 Yorkshire teams.Who you played was based on league position the previous season,so the top 4or 5 teams in their county leagues played each other .Cumbrian clubs played in Lancs.Consequently the better teams had a tougher fixture listIt seems to me that the league have come up with the best solution given the fact that they probably expected. Blackpool to step up to the mark.If any fans have a major complaint it must be those of the South Wales scorpions for the club was asked to stand down from the NRC to keep the numbers workable when Blackpool folded.

I have just this minute seen that little gem for myself...SWScorpions standing aside in the NR cup...Were they given a financial compensation package I wonder?
am I alone in thinking the way things are going currently is rather ludicrous and our leadership has been found both seriously wanting and hopelessly unprepared.
Mind you Delphite is right about dual registration!
