Due to the adverse weather conditions, the Club has taken an early decision to postpone the Meet the Players night given the fact that the majority of the Lions squad live outside of the Swinton area. It would have proved to be very difficult getting everybody there.

On top of that we certainly do not wish to put any of our loyal and valuable supporters at any risk.



The Club is currently is discussions with Clifton Cricket Club regarding a future date.



This will take place at the earliest possible date that is convenient for both parties.



We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused but we are sure that everybody will understand that people’s safety is of the upmost importance.



The pre-paid tickets will remain valid for the re-arranged meeting.

Should anybody wish to be refunded there pre-paid £3 entrance fee then please contact the Club



The Club thanks the supporters for their understanding.

Was hoping for news on Agecroft, we now have to wait another two weeks. As anyone heard anything fact or roumour, postive or negitive i'm itching to know

With the RFL doing their bit to further undermine RL at our level, I think now more than ever it is imperative that planning permission for Agecroft is granted. I have been quite vocal in my opinions when things have been going badly, and also intend to be vocal now things might be looking up. The fact that the meeting has been put back due to snow is unfortunate; however, as the age old adage goes, ‘No news is good news!’ I hope I am right, or I think we will be watching Folly in years to come!

I agree I think this season is absolutely massive for the future of the club both on and off the field! The attendance at the meeting at Moorside SC was a huge fillip for everyone connected with the club and demonstrated that people are interested in Swinton Lions.Everybody needs to talk the club up at every opportunity and hopefully things will progress.JK we need a proper team poster/photo with futures that can be distributed throughout M27! there is latent support out there lets show them we are here and hopefully on our way home.

Given the story of the Lions over the last 20 years it is quite remarkable in many ways, but the latent support is definately still out there. Including support in some important places amidst the leaders of local schools and suchlike. Bringing this to fruition requires some proper leadership; starting with commitment to developing the club in M27, a strategic plan and resources to implement that plan.

If we get to the end of the 2011 season without a clear way forward along these lines, the club may well be finished. Couldn't agree with you more that it is a crucial 12 months.

i agree with you there phil, but i am afraid to say i dont think the owners have the funds to build a new ground otherwise they would have done a long time ago, the best bet for the time being in my opinion is to hope we can play longer at the willows (maybe agree a 5 year lease with godliman watson homes the owners) to give our owners more time to come up with the funds for a new ground, even then i dont hold out much hope on a new ground but i really do wish it happens.

maybe we should have a club thats run similar to fc united where the fans own [it 2000 swinton fans to stump up 1000quid each thats 2 million quid build a new ground for 1.5million pay the clubs debts off and start afresh ( i really should stop dreaming about positive things ) mind you have we got 2000 fans left

on a more positive note i would like to wish every swinton rlfc fan and all other rugby league fans (apart from the pinks) (well maybe even the pinks too) around the world a very happy christmas and a very happy new year too [attachment=3100:christmas_tree.jpg]

Lets just wait and see what happens at the meeting on December 15th!! you never know it might just be good news

Whilst private funding paid for virtually all the first generation of rugby league grounds, private funding of a modern standard stadia is a very rare thing nowadays Julian (of all the new generation of grounds only the DW had its costs met out of the pocket of the then club owner), and there is no feasible way its going to be the answer for Swinton Lions.

But if you take a look at the KC Stadium, New Craven Park, Halliwell Jones Stadium, Halton Stadium, City of Salford Stadium, Leigh Sports Village, St Helens's new ground, South Leeds Stadium, etc etc - none were funded privately and plentiful experience is out there of alternative approaches to funding.

In these modern times, cross subsidising development, council funding and grant monies is the way to go! Which is why it is fundamentally important for the club to be run with this agenda in mind - recognising the need to deliver value for third party organisations that may be able to help financially.
