So annoyed that we never got it....
Saying that good luck to Russia and Qatar.
Still I have no idea how Qatar are going to handle the worlds biggest sporting competition. Qatar only has 1.7 million people.
Saying that the sun and football is quite appealing. I will probably be going to Russia 2018 as I've been there before and it's a nice country. As for Qatar it does sound quite appealing with the sun and sand and all. But I think they really will struggle.

Been to all the Euros and Football World Cups since Euro 1996.
Russia and Qatar do not really appeal to me in the same way that some of my previous World Cup trips have done.
England now cannot host a Football World Cup to at least 2030.

How is it bad news?
Even in 2013 when the Rugby League World Cup is underway there would be more talk about England's 2018 cabbage kicking world cup.
It's great news for the sport of Rugby League.

because, no matter how 1 sport minded you may be, football means more than just a game to alot of people around the world and it would have been a massive pick me up to a country pretty much in depression at teh moment.

Well, at least the sight of our Prime Minister and a member of the Royal family doing everything they could to oblige a bunch of decrepit, sleazy timeservers and pocket-fillers will have done a lot of good for our international prestige, no?

Yes. Agree with you on that Sev. It was great to live in a host city during Euro 96 (Sheffield). A World Cup here would have been fantastic.
The decisions re: Russia and Qatar defy logic. The latter has no football history or infrastructure, and the former is a huge country and would be a nightmare for fans.
Sepp Blatter must be loving it, the colossal crook.

Me too.
Russia's main argument (in public at least, rather than in the privacy of Blatter's office) what that it was "their turn". And you have to admit they have a point. But are they really ready to deal with such a massive operation? Dunno. Best of luck to them - they'll need it. The number of shady characters who will be after their cut of such a lucrative event just boggles the mind.
I remember the 1996 Euros and it was a good time. England playing well didn't hurt, mind, which isn't something you can guarantee every time. Ian Broudie, Frank Skinner and David Baddiel also contributed to the national feeling.
But we have to sit back now and wonder whether there is any point at all in making a bid ever again, until Blatter (or his successor) tips us the wink that we'd win.

How could anybody possibly claim that FIFA was corrupt and loves money after these decisions?

Whether that's because of the bid or his bank balance... I don't know.

Seconded on all points.
The Qatar decision is just baffling.

Yes it would have been great.
The annoying thing is when the Commonwealth Games (India) and World Cup (South Africa) both nearly went #### up it was England that was on standby both times. Russian (then Soviet Union) has hosted a major sporting event in the 1980 Olympics so it isn't THAT much of a surprise but Qatar?? Most if not all on their shortlist had hosted the event before so maybe that went in their favour?

I’m sure that the FIFA are beyond reproach, the decision was reached fairly and impartially with no prejudice against England and the increased bank balances (allegedly) of at least 20 of the delegates is entirely coincidental. In other news Gillian McKeith denounces vegetarianism, the Castleford branch of the Crusaders Appreciation Society collect £100,000 to help the crisis hit Welsh club, Gus Gould compliments Northern Hemisphere RL, David Cameron announces a massive increase in the national minimum wage and Iran signs a treaty of eternal friendship with Israel.
I had to laugh, a BBC reporter mentioned that the England bid team had ‘failed to develop the right relationships.’ I can only assume that’s some sort of euphemism for greasing the right palms.
