Garry Schofield was quoted as saying he had 21 Players to work with for now and he would'nt be dashing into the Transfer Market?

I think 23-24 is what you would need to compete and cover injury etc and who are the 21 Players that we have signed for next year that he has?

I can think of Nixon, Larkin, Ballard, Rooney, Harrison, Mossop, Thackery, Gleeson, Catic, Mcdermott, Ostler, Knowles, Coyle, Campbell.

14

Anyone know the other 7?

I thought the same. I can only name 17 in the squad at the moment (I think you missed Fletcher, Luisi and James). Of those, Catic, Mossop and Luisi are in Oz at the moment leaving (on paper) just 14 for training.

It'll be interesting to see the team that turns out next Sunday vs Swinton at CP. If no new faces are added in the next week, I'd go with ...

1. Ballard
2. Larkin
3. Catic
4. Harrison
5. Nixon
6. Rooney
7. Campbell
8. James
9. Gleeson
10. Thackray
11. Ostler
12. Knowles
13. Luisi ? (Fletcher)

14. Mossop
15. Coyle
16. McDermott
17. Fletcher (Dixon ?)

It's a good 17, but TBH the team pretty much picks itself. The obvious gaps for me are at Fullback, Centre and Prop. Hopefully we may have some positive news regarding Broady, Butler and maybe a new signing or two. Also fingers crossed about Youngy and maybe even Bauer.

I'm sure Andreas has been training, who is a good player, and I'm sure he will sign. I think you will see literally the same squad as last year Steve, with Thackeray, Gleeson, and Dave Armitstead, who I was told yesterday is returning to the Club. How true it is I don't know.

I think the troublesome centre position will have to be filled with a combination of the players we already have.

I'd be suprised to see any more "new" players, the Clive Street wall has collapsed and needs fixing so that may take funding if the insurance does'nt cover it. The money has to come from somewhere. But, we may be pleasantly suprised.

Still I think we will have a very good squad, we have Nixon back, who with 31 tries was devastating before he got injured, so his return has to be worth the addition of 3 average players. He is a class act and one of the best at his job in the country, there is still no doubt that if James was'nt a homebird he could have played Superleague and been as devastating there.

The most important area for me is establishing Gary Broadbent's position, and if he wishes to continue, we simply have to sign him. It's not just that he is a top top class fullback, it's his influence and reading of the game that have helped the Raiders progression to where they are now. He is also a good role model for the younger players, as he really looks after himself and does'nt take anything for granted, and you need players like that in your side. I'm sure if Gary feels his body can give it another year (or three), he will do and if he is looked after contractually, then he will give nothing other than 120% for his Town and the cause.

Agreed, Thirty-Three, I believe that Gary Broadbent is still the best full back outside of Super League and can hold his own in that league too!

  1. Andy Ballard
  2. Anthony Blackwood/Andreas Bauer ?
  3. Liam Harrison
  4. James Nixon
  5. Jamie Rooney
  6. James Coyle
  7. Mark Gleeson
  8. Jamie Thackray
  9. Michael Knowles
  10. Ned Catic
  11. Zebastian Luisi
  12. Martin Ostler
  13. Brett McDermott
  14. Liam Campbell
  15. Nathan Mossop
  16. Chris Larkin
  17. Jamie Butler
  18. Richard Fletcher
  19. Matt James
  20. Marc Dixon

RETAINING SQUAD NUMBERS FOR LAST SEASONS PLAYERS, with the exception of Mark Gleeson 9 and Jamie Thackray 10. Obviously we await, with baited breath, Gary signing at Numero Uno. Twenty One Players with GB. Chris Young would've been a good continuation from last season.

He would be my first signing but Mr Phantom I am correct on this 1. Unless Des budges on this it will not happen. Broady will not be to bothered also.

This is how the squad is looking at the moment...

Full backs
-

Wingers
James Nixon
Andy Ballard
Chris Larkin
Marc Dixon

Centres
Liam Harrison
Andreas Baeur?

Half Backs
Jamie Rooney
Liam Campbell
James Coyle

Prop forwards
Matt James
Jamie Thackray
Jamie Butler
Brett McDermott

2nd row forwards
Michael Knowles
Ned Catic
Martin Ostler
Richard Fletcher

Loose forward
Zeb Luisi

With the inclusion of Baeur, we have 18 players there (correct me if I have missed anybody out). Personally, I feel we need 1 more addition to the pack- rumours suggest Kyle Amor may be this addition, just to complete what is already shaping up to be a very impressive pack. On the other hand, we need 2/3 additions to the backs and idealy the signing of Broady before the competitive season begins. We have one recognised centre in Liam Harrison of whom is definately on the books for next year, leaving us with an area of the squad of weakness and no depth whatsoever. I feel a recongised and established centre (somebody at the level of Blackwood) plus a versitile utility back are the ideal additions to the squad at this moment in time. The Championship will be tougher than ever next season; aswell as Fax and Featherstone, Widnes, Sheffield, Leigh and Batley all have very strong, competitive squads. Further signings are imperitive if we are to finish amongst them teams next season.

Yesterday at Craven Park all the players bar 16 looked in tip top shape, the forwards look trim and in shape. There fitness must be at it's peak again now.

Does anyone know what has happened to Anthony Blackwood, the centre that was on loan to us last year. He doesn't seem to be listed on the Crusaders website, apart from the injury he looked a good centre for me and IMO would be usefull for us.
