I don't think those from the dark side of the Pennines will have a real problem with Kes - after all Colin Welland's in it. But I do remember when it was first released the cinema chains banned it south of Nottingham, on the basis that no one that far south would be able to understand the dialect. There was a protest and it was eventually shown nationally.

Wasn't it the first British film to be released in the USA with subtitles?

That is one of the greatest moments in cinema history for me.

I sat opposite Colin Welland at the 1979 Rainhill Trials celebrations.

I think that the old Liverpudlian Actor Billy Dean was the fish shop owner also. My favorite bit was when the innocent messenger boy ended up being caned with the scallies.

I saw Colin Welland taking a teenage girl in to a hotel in the Lake District when I was camping up there. Probably his daughter.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

hopefully it raised the crassness and irrelevance of your insinuation about welland.

Strange, when I read Exxiles comment, I read it as a statement of fact. I never saw any insinuation in his statement whatsoever. The female in question may well have been a family friend or a relative other than his daughter, which is why the use of the word "probably" is quite proper for the context.
May I suggest that you are so prejudiced in your opinion of Exxile that you are unable to read even a simple statement made by him, without colouring and/or perverting its original meaning with your own petty hatred?
Maybe you should consider apologising to Exxile and then apologising to the rest of the forum for your past hypocracy in being so ready to accuse others of prejudice when you are so wracked with it yourself?
Just a thought.
