Anyone care to help me out? I'm looking for a cheap new laptop for general tasks such as office applications and the odd DVD etc. Must be wireless enabled.
Do the mini versions pack enough punch for the money, or should I stick to a regular sized laptop?
Probably need 2gb ram at least, plus a decent processor. Size and portability appeals to me with the netbooks.
Over to you folks! Cheers.

I've been given use of a netbook, and rarely use it. I prefer my laptop.
It's a question of personal preference IMHO

Netbooks tend not to have cd drives.
Or the ones I was looking at about a year ago didn't, it wasn't something that wasn't immediately obvious until I got mine and needed one. But a seperate cd-drive was fine for the amount I used it.
Most software has installation files that can be put on via usb anyway if you know what is needed.

My 10" netbook is now my only PC. I don't think my laptop even has a working OS on it at the moment.
I love the portability of it, as mine goes everywhere with me in my man bag. Get one with the extra large 6 cell batteries, which often have a 9hr working battery life. Mine does, I can use it all day with no power, so I rarely need to carry the cable either. They all seem to have wifi and webcams inbuilt. They are great value for £200 - 250 ish. Mine cost me £190 once I claimed the VAT back from Amazon, as it was delivered to me outside the EU.
I use it for watching films, studying, ipod stuff, full MS Office package, web, e mail, MSN Messenger, Skype with video, interfacing into Telecoms switches and routers, in fact everything I used the 15" laptop for and more. BUT they are slow on loading and scrolling web pages which are long, eg Guardian CIF contributions, so patience is sometimes required. These days a USB stick (mine is 18Gb) can hold more than a DVD and external DVD RW units are cheap enough on Amazon. Most units seem to come with 3 USB units, one of which may be able to charge things (phones, ipod etc) from the battery, even when the Netbook is off or in standby with the lid down.
