FOGGY

Significantly, the item reads "former Oldham player..."
Given that, and the fact that Woodcock is a centre, has Mick been given the boot??
I really hope not. Neither the club nor Mick, or me, for that matter, condone the use of drugs of any sort. However, is it really the end of the world? The fact that he has been given only 3 months, starting on October 1st, would suggest that even the RL are not overly concerned.
In the article Mick talks about enjoying the best season of his career. The lad is Oldham through and through, despite taking a while to get here. I really think the club should stand by him and snap him back up, before someone else does..
Comments please...

Edit: Just thinking about this now, surely Foggy has to be a' former player'. If he was suspended on the 11th Oct he can't sign a contract for anyone and his current contract runs out at the end of November means he is no longer our player.

He shouldn't be overly punished for a minor indiscretion.
I hope that OLRFC keep Foggy on as a player and as an employee. The work that he put in on that ground in the past season has been heroic. It would be a very sad day indeed if we were to let him go for a small error on his part.

The suspension will finish on 11th January anyway, so he wouldn't miss any competitive games only Law Cup match.
It would be a poor decision to let him go for this minor issue. Thought he was one of our best last year, particularly early in the season where he was, at times, unstoppable.
Lets remember we gave Dave Allen a chance after a much worse drugs offence.

Got to agree from the comment it does not look good, just hope common sense prevails in what has been classed as a minor indiscretion, anything serious would have met with a much longer ban.
Come on Oldham give the guy a chance and get him resigned, I know the fans want to see him out there again in our colours.

GET HIM SIGNED!
Till you remember things are never gonna be the same again?
Ain't it crazy how you think you've got your whole life planned
Just to find that it was never ever in your hands?

What would have been the RFL's reaction if he'd gone out, got ###### out of his head and passed out in the street. I'd guess that's just as bad and would set a terrible example to young people. When you see what some players in other sports do and ultimately get away with, you wonder what the fuss is about with Foggy.
He's been a fool for doing something illegal that can get him into trouble in the sport he plays. He's been banned, now let's get him back. Maybe then he will control his recreational activities better in the future.

Got to disagree with the last statement. This is the equivalent of the bottom tier football player, so if a player from Rotherham, Barnet or such like got a 3 month ban for smoking cannabis, I doubt it would even make the paper, much less the back page.

Alcohol is a far greater problem for society and causes more crime, injuries and deaths than cannabis. (I'm not a puritan, I enjoy a drink. I'm just realistic and honest about my drug of choice - the dreaded booze)
Foggy probably deserves a slap on the wrist because he knew what the consequences of smoking it would be, but that's about all. But we don't even know how many times he smoked it. It's a strange drug that hangs around in the bloodstream for up to a month after smoking it (not that it still has any effects then). He may have only had one spliff, once. It would still have showed up on his test.

It would be nice to get a statement from the club about his future, but I supposed thats to much to ask???

I applaud your forgiving attitude.
To me the main difference between smoking cannabis and getting drunk is cannabis is an illegal class b drug and alcohol is legal, and anyone over a certain age can drink as much as they like. The man is a grown up and will have known what he was doing when he smoked it and the risks he took regarding his rugby career. The fault is all his.
His punishment seems fair to me,and once served learn your lesson and pick up the pieces.

Seems a bit unfair that Aussie rl stars can beat their wives, batter anyone in the street, or even (Monaghan) upload photos of their attempts to have intimate relations with a dog; and all that gets them is a fat, juicy Superleague contract!
All Foggy did (as far as we know) was a few puffs of waccy baccy and he's banned for 3 months. Maybe Monaghan wasn't as bad as we think...maybe he didn't inhale.

he may want to leave, he may have had a better offer, who knows?
I hope he doesn't leave
Despite what's happened,he was fantastic for us on and off the field and should be kept.
