Sounds to me like he's safer in custody than on bail. The next few weeks are going to be interesting, to say the least.

Be interesting to see what they've held back as "insurance".

An interesting one to watch from the sidelines, can see Mastercard, Visa and Amazon copping a fair bit of flack in a very sympathetic press for there respective stances.

Apparently the leaks can still be published and include things on UFOs (now that I would like to read) and insider details of banks that could bring a couple down.

Most of the leaks I'm happy with but I think the recent one on things of national importance to the USA was a bit too dangerous (in terms of terrorist threat) and probably why they upped efforts to arrest him.

I hear what your saying, but if you were so inclined as to be targeting sites that would be of national importance to the USA or its Allies, was there really anything on there you wouldn't have been able to come up with anyway?

For once, The Guardian has its uses.

The British government's deep fears that Libya would take "harsh and immediate" action against UK interests if the convicted Lockerbie bomber died in a Scottish prison are revealed in secret US embassy cables which show London's full support for the early release of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi.

Exactly. The reaction to the 'news' coming from some of the cables is quite frankly pathetic. It's as though we have nothing else to worry about!!

I mean who would know that BAe sites helping build the F22 fighter would be important? Or Telecoms sites? (though Goonhilly is no longer used for Sat Coms and Martlesham is no longer BT).

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Martlesham is no longer BT.

Off topic: It still is. Adastral Park at Martlesham Heath is a major BT R&D site. In the techie news last week that people in the neighbouring Kesgrave part of Ipswich will be getting a trial of 1gbps broadband early next year. ohmy.gif

On the main subject though: It's very convenient that he's subject to an international arrest warrant with repercussions usually limited to large scale terrorists. I've also read a few media pieces like this that raise more doubts in my mind.

Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

Off Off topic, I meant the Sat coms teleport bit biggrin.gif

Major Denial of service attacks going on right left and centre.

Anon (or anonymous) are taking down websites of anyone who are acting against Wikileaks (Paypal, MasterCard, etc). Anon don't necessary support wikileaks but they love a good hacking party! (Anon are behind such wonders as Rickrolling, Palins email hack, the term 'lulz'...). Anon are more about telling the governments that they don't control the Internet as much as they think they do.

MasterCard and Visa have stopped payments to Wikileaks (but will happily let you pay your KKK membership...) and paypal have closed an account.

Assange is already trying to blackmail all and sundry governments with his threats of a massive release of documents should anything (what, exactly, isn't clear) be done to him.

He can't be allowed to play some kind of Get out of Jail Free card.

I'm not convinced he is going to survive all this.

He's safer in jail here than anyone else. I just hope he has not upset the Israeli govt. Mossad have VERY long arms!

also, see Collateral Murder

I have no sympathy for the guy, if he gets 'taken out' he'll have brought it upon himself. He may as well have stood up and said I am a member of Al Qaeda and declare war on the U.S. government and its allies.

The bloke is an idiot.

His releases of Afghan material had the names of local informants included in them. Quite a few are probably now dead as a result.

Whatever he has got coming to him he deserves for that alone but it is rough justice.

Not convinced with your idea that he is safe in jail. A lot of people commit suicide in jail, he may already have enough rope he may just need someone to help him with the knot.

In case it passed your notice NATO is at war, do you think people would have been declaring him a wonderful chap if he had handed over Americas archive of miltary secrets to Hitler in WWII.

I will not rise to your childesh cretin comment.
