Funny you should mention Salford. Do you not have any objections to them taking players on a unapproved scholarship scheme starting a year earlier than any other clubs, just so they can ring fence players from areas such as Oldham and deny them to other SL clubs?
Forward thinking from ORLFC shame its not from the amateurs

It is essential that we keep these young lads in the game. One lost is one two many.
If the lads can be kept in the game and signed on by a club outside Super Leage to play in an under 18's leage it will not only keep them in the game but bring the best out of late developers in relation to their skill level.
it was stated that Oldham Rugby would have a squad of 24 which isa reasonable size of squad.
The problem is as I see it is there 24 players released from SL scolarships that will find their way to Oldham. If not then they will be short of players. It is then that the local amateur clubs will be concerned if the pro clubs then turn to the under 18's players at the amateur clubs to make up the numbers.
The best solution is for both the pro club and amateur clubs to work together to target all these released players to try and get as many as they can to play in Oldham to complete the squad of 24 for the pro club and increase the number of players at the amateur club.
The best players from our local amateur clubs will always initially go to SL clubs as Oldham as a championship club cannot compete with that system.
Any system that encourages players to stay in the game and not give up when released can only be good for the game but everone should be involved both amateur and pro for the good of the game and the town.
The them and us attitude is a detriment to todays game .

Your right everything must be done to keep these Lads in the Game !
But why haven't Clubs like Oldham tried to do this before now ?
My take on it is there has to be some financial gain in it for Oldham or they wouldn't entertain it !
As for the them and us attitude if you get in Bed with a Dog !, You Get Fleas !

Money talks Penfold which is something Oldham RLFC have sadly been lacking in for many years. We cannot compete with the likes of SL clubs.
The young players will go to the big clubs where the money is and where they think their best chances are.
Its not just in Rugby League but in all pro team sports this can be found.
