A Polish prisoner has been awarded 3,000 euros (£2,500) in compensation because he has not been provided with vegetarian meals.

Janusz Jakobski, who is serving eight years for rape, is a Buddhist and follows rules about not eating meat.

Are there no Buddhist rules about raping somebody?

QUOTE
A spokesman for the prison service told The Daily Telegraph that Jakobski had previously claimed to be an ardent Catholic and fought to have a cross in his cell.

"We are not entirely inclined to believe that he is sincere and that his demands were not related to a desire to annoy the prison service and the justice system," said spokesman Captain Artur Bojanowicz.

The last government were convinced that we were there to do their bidding. They wasted vast quantities of our money in order to spy on us, intimidate us and needlessly over regulate us, whilst gold plating their own pensions and expenses. Their behind the scenes encouragement of, and turning a blind eye to, the kettling and harrassment tactics of the Police are a shameful episode in our history which we need to remember and address urgently.

there are and that's between him and his religion, assuming he isn't lying.

my mate dave's done some hard time, the tales he tells about the food(and no he isn't complaining) it's quality, quamtity and issues surrounding it-extreme violence over perecieved unfair sharing out of banana mousses for instance would make your hair curl when you've finished voming.

Being a Buddhist, a non-theistic religion, does not preclude belief in a God or the teachings of another religion. However, vegetarianism is not 'compulsory' in Buddhism either.

Agreed there's nothing in Buddhism to stop people following another religion at least if they're Mahayana Buddhist, Theravada Buddhism seems more hardline. However, there's plenty in Catholicism to stop someone practising another religion, although Voodoo was played by John Paul apparently

Also not only is it not obligatory to be vegetarian if you're Buddhist (to my knowledge Jainism is the only religion to require it) in the not too distant past some strains of Buddhism actually practiced human sacrifice allegedly
