Whilst an interesting statistic, I'd be surprised if your second line is true, having been to both Workington and the aptly named (for the purposes of this thread) Whitehaven, where multiculturalism is yet to make a significant impact.

I remember a few years back that Steven "The ######" Jones had a minor pop at RL by suggesting the crowd was "somewhat caucasian"
I replied to him by pointing out that St Helens is a town that is "somewhat caucasian" but Leicester was 40% non-white and Leicester Tigers crowds certainly weren't.
No reply...

I'd have thought that was obvious - the good people of Wigan have been right all along the place is a dump and nobody would choose to live there!

It is a statistic. Some of us find facts interesting and useful. You don't appear to be interested in facts.

Yet another interesting fact about about Berwick on Tweed; a town which punches well above its weight in terms of interesting facts.

It is quite amazing isn't it? Given Liverpool's afro caribbean population and Manchester's asian population being so close. I'm sure there are a variety of reasons why the glass industry did not attract former colonial migrant workers in the 1960's and 70's, but I don't know what they are. Did Triplex, UGB and Pilks have policies of recruiting from within the local populace, I wonder?
I find it more amazing that some people can't appreciate this anomaly as a part of our social history, instead prefering to ignore it hoping it will go away. Or do they think that even to discuss such an unusual situation, will somehow bring hoards of rabid racists out of the woodwork?
