Following on from Shotgun's thread, I was hoping for some insight/experiences from those who may have travelled to destination on my immediate horizon.

My main holidaying destination next year is pencilled in for Singapore. Any tales to tell out there; where to stay? Good airline, etc? Must visit locations?

One place I would also like to make a long weekend of is Budapest. The same applies.

Cheers.

I haven't been to Budapest since 1979, so no useful information, other than that it's a beautiful city.

If I had to pick a few places I'd go back to repeatedly it would be:

Beach holidays: Maldives. Paradise Island in the Maldives is probably my favourite. Semi-detached villas on the beach, each villa has about 50 yards of beach in front of it meaning plenty of space and having to share none of it with lots of other people. Lie on beach reading book, then go snorkelling with the wide variety of fish in the very shallow waters, lie on beach reading book, snorkelling, and so on smile.gif

UK holidays: Log cabin away in the wilds, preferably Scottish highlands and a place where you can't get a mobile phone reception smile.gif As a couple, Strathyre is the best, with friends one of the larger places in Piperdam are great.

Foreign active holidays: Not sure but I've been to a good few I liked. I enjoyed going to Taba Heights in Egypt as it's a good base for lots of places from the Egyptian tourist traps to Petra in Jordan and even into Israel.

Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

I have lived in a few countries and worked in several. My conclusion is that I can feel at home in most of Northern Europe and nowhere outside of it.

I could live a very happy life in Boston.

Enjoyed my visits to the USA with San Francisco standing out as my favorite. Next up is Vancouver and Seattle.

Looking at options for next years holidays and Jordon, Syria and Libya are in the frame. All 3 are full of history and not on the package tour list.
With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Vancouver and Seattle are great places to visit. I have a friend who lives out in Vancouver, when we visited him we drove down to Seattle for a few days. Superb holiday.

Vancouver is another place where I could happily live.

Budapest is a beautiful city, I'd make it one of the longer, long weekends if I were going back again as you could easily waste a day in one of the Spa's which are an incredable sight. Or you could make it into a decent holiday if you wanted to tick a few places off, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague all doable by train/cheap one way airlines.

I think the next time we go back, we'll go to Budapest for a long weekend, get the train to Bratislava and have a night there for "old times sake" and then hop on an overnight sleeper (twin room cost is pretty cheap) to Prague which I've only passed through never actually explored.

Singapore - not really that much there. Its a bit of a building site at times and is hot and humid.

NZ would be the best place to live - climate better than UK, the outdoors, people are so friendly and helpful, now has micro-breweries, no over-bearing H&S culture, similar cost of living, safe.

Enjoyed fantastic holdays in Garda, Italy, and in Austria.

Over here, I thought St Davids in S-Wales great for cliff walking. Also so enjoyed Somerset, Lake District and touring Scotland.

A couple of old army mates once fell into the deep roadside drains in Singapore after getting drunk. rolleyes.gif

I've been to Singapore twice and I don't think I'd bother again.

Kuala Lumpur is much better and Malaysia in general is a great country especially Sarawak.
