Following a cut artery in the left wrist at work, I started suffering from throbbing pain and numbness. After undergoing tests, the consultant confirmed carpal tunnel but said it couldn't be related to the injury. I had previously visited the doctor reference pain and numbness in the right arm, concerned the power tools at work could be the cause. The doctor was non-committal, saying possibly not. It's now been confirmed I have carpal tunnel in the right wrist but await a second opinion from another consultant. For now, my doctor is going to inject my wrists, with a view to surgery if need be later. The pain at night isn't pleasant to say the least.
Has anyone suffered from this condition and how have you faired in terms of geting back to normality?

I have read that injuries can cause the problem, as well as work-related stress.

An Internet site said work stress can cause the problem. As far as injury is concerned, I've been told by a consultant that this isn't the case. At the moment I'm relying on 'expert' medical advice but I somehow feel this is wanting.
Like I said, my doctor is going to give me injections for now to ease the tension on the wrists. Four to six weeks seems right for recovery following surgery. After giving up my financial services business, I now work in a factory in manual work. I'm just hoping for now I will be able to continue for a couple of years more.

It shouldn't be a problem to carry on working, try to wear a wrist splint at home it will help alleviate the pain.

My wife had the operation for it on her right hand a week ago, her symptoms were exactly as you describe Ray.
It can be caused by repititive stress (typing for instance) but it can also be a natural narrowing of the tunnel with age that puts pressure on the nerves that pass through the tunnel.
She did sometimes wear a wrist splint before and she said it did help, especially if worn overnight.

I'm sure Dave she can vouch for the pain overnight The one problem is the medical profession who seem short on answers to as to the reasons why it's caused. There again, it seems there are many to choose from.
Hope your good wife gets better soon.
