There was a documentary on Television about 12-14 years ago now. The engineers behind the documentary bought some compnents from Maplins and put a crude device together. This device was in broad terms a scanner. The van drove past several companies addresses and scanned the computers and imaged in the Vehicle was what was actually on the screen as they drove past.
The aim of the documentary was to highlight to Joe Public what can be achieved stringing a few components together on some PC Board.
