OK, lets get one thing straight from the off, I HATE SOCCER!

Now, some European countries are bleating about possibly losing the "Winter Break" when most Euro countries play meaningless tournaments elsewhere, I think Ajax toured the Middle East last winter playing 8 games in 5 weeks, not much of a break. The non-break countries will of course have to start their season 3-4 weeks earlier, and finish 2-3 weeks later than normal. Shame.
Those of us with longer memories will remember 1994/5 when News Corp expected Rugby League Professionals to play 2 season back-to-back to turn us into a summer game (Starting in February, finishing in October? Don't get me started on that one! Not even Cricket does that.), the more northern European countries by necessity play during the summer anyway, Scandanavian, Baltic, Russian, Ex-Soviet Union for instance, Switzerland, Austria (I think) too.
