Alas it doesn't look like it's meant to be now on Boxing day.......but here's my contribution to the yuletide season.
Any budding poets out there........sing your carols o people of Batley!!!
Tune: Away in a manger……
Away at teabag stadium, no grass on the field,
The rams play their home games, to the Bulldogs they yield.
They whinge and they whine when the ref gives ‘em nowt
Those sheep ‘cross the hills full of scutters and scrotes
The Bulldogs are lowing; they’re at home Boxing Day
Their pitch will be perfect under blankets of hay
They’ll tackle and scrimmage, running rings round the sheep,
And the Roy Powell Trophy in the board room we’ll keep.
Be near us Lord Jesus, we ask thee to stay
With the Bulldogs of Batley and help us we pray
Bless all the directors, one and all at the Mount,
And supporters a-plenty to sing and to shout
(Next one with gusto!)

Deck the Mount with balls and holly
Tra la la la la la la la la
Boxing Day we will be jolly

We will beat the rams of Dewsbury
Tra la la la la la la la la
Batley Bulldogs full of fury
