Ok in no real order, Sean Locke, Jack Dee, Simon Amstell, Richard Herring, John Bishop and Dara o'briain are all pretty contemporary, but I have enjoyed all when seeing live. Not all to everyones tastes I'm sure but I'd say comedy is one of the most fiercely subjective elements in popular culture, especially in this country.

What about yourself?

Surely a character based comedy sketch show relies on repetition.

I went off Little Britain pretty quickly I must admit, but plenty of people like seeing their favourite characters over and over again using the same catchphrases.

As for Come Fly With Me, I thought there were some good bits, but feel they milked the idea a bit too much and were so predictable in certain sketches that it was far too tame.

I'm not sure that the characters are any weirder or more funny than the ones in the "real life" version of the show.

I enjoyed the Japanese schoolgirls - Martin Clunes sketch. However...

This is probably going to cause some fun, but does anyone wonder whether blacking up and doing funny foreign accents is a bit 1970s/Benny Hill?

Got nothing against those guys, without being into them as such. But anyway, I don't want to be arguing with you about what constitutes funny, I was just responding to the claim that they are 'garbage', when IMO they have done some really funny stuff.

I like lots of comedians but all in small doses....it's very repetitive!! cool.gif

Dara O'Briain was superb live on his recent tour.

Isn't there supposed to be a very small number of 'jokes' anyway, existing since ancient antiquity, with all other jokes being a variation thereof. Can't recall what they are though.

Fair enough, like I said originally, I do like them myself. Some of the original Rock Profiles were great, worth tracking down on dvd for a few quid

I wouldn't be surprised - I know the same can be said for narrative stories, there are about 7 of those, so jokes are probably a slimmed down version of that.
