Downton Abbey by a country mile, and not just because of these two

Quite enjoy Downturn Abbey in the Eye.
If they do Upturns Downturns it could be just as good.

I finally caught up with this from my sky+ last night. I thought it was pretty decent if a bit sentimental at places. Overall I really enjoyed it. I’ve never seen the original series, so wanted to ask whether it was as entwined with the major headline events of the day as the remake.
