Interesting:
"The RFL is still to decide just how many teams will contest Super League XVII in 2012, meaning that there is still uncertainty over the number of relegation places. "

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG
Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT
Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG
Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

When I read that I immediately thought that SL XV11 will consist of 15 teams and no relegation!!!!!!
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

I thought the RFL stated some time ago that they were going with 14 clubs beyond 2011.
Looks like they are changing their minds on that one too.
I prefer 15 clubs, don't like seeing a SL disappear.

I agree but i suppose the question is distribution of funds. Does anyone know when the next sky contract is up?

an odd number of teams is an odd way to do it, might as well be 16 and get an extra game in weekly

stick to 14 teams, there arent enough players and more money needs to go to clubs

wakey dont deserve to be saved

perhaps the extra teams are psg and toulose

"The TV contract we agreed with Sky Sports last year saw all the Super League clubs receive considerably enhanced distributions in 2010, whilst Co-operative Championship clubs again benefited from substantial disbursements from the governing body."

I believe that a substantial amount of the "substantial disbursements" was to pay the wages of community development officers and scholarship schemes, not actually paying club bills or players wages, etc.

And quite rightly! Ringfencing the funds that are distributed to clubs not only helps cover the cost of schemes that are often the first to go in difficult times, but allows clubs to build their own capacity and grow - helping clubs to help themselves. Could you imagine what would happen if the RFL said "Here's one hundred grand. Do as you like."
disques vogue

The club where Eurovision isn't a dirty word. A waltz through the leopard skin lined world of Tom Jones, Bert Kampfert and Burt Bacharach. Step out to the sound of the happy hammond and swing to the seductive sounds of the samba.

DJ's, raffles, cocktails and wide collars. Please dress smart. Gentlemen might like to wear a suit.

Same price. Same music. Same rubbish prizes.

To be fair isn't that what happens with superleague clubs albeit with much more money?

I don't argue your point BUT I think Mr Lewis' statement gives the false impression that just as Super League clubs get their £900k (or whatever the figure is) from Sky the Championship clubs are similarly subsidised by the RFL. Are the SL clubs restricted as to how they spend their funding?

Because they spend too much?

How many SL clubs make money?
North Derbyshire Chargers - join the stampede

Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK - ran the Spire 10 mile in August and the Worksop Half Marathon in October - more to come in 2013

Effectively yes, because they have to meet the SL license criteria. That means running reserves, scholarships, community programs, effective marketing campaigns plus ensuring they have the stadium up to scratch.

I don't know. I haven't researched SL clubs finances thoroughly.
