Has he signed a contract? I cannot remember that it had been formally announced anywhere if there is no contract what is there to stop Dave Woods walking away if he gets a better offer.

I would have thought he would be under contract at least until the end of the season and is probably worthy of a two year contract with a super league release clause.

Apologies if this has already been formally reported but I cannot recollect that it has

JUST A QUESTION--- why didn't York offer Jason Dem (can't spll the rest of it) a Player/Coach job, and upgrade Dave Woods to Team Manager or Director of rugby?

No experience as a first team coach if we are to achieve our goal of staying in the championship we need the best coach available and that has to be Dave Woods.

I don't think contracts, nowadays, are worth the paper they are written on.
Mutual trust and understanding between honest adults is worth much more.
Judging by the way he is building the club from top to bottom, with the range right across the playing side,he intends to be here for the long term.
I have never seen him so relaxed and happy as he was at the Launch Night and The Sponsors Night.
( Nice to see Hunslet followers being so concerned.) biggrin.gif

Just thought you could have had the best of both worlds. Jason could have learnt coaching under Dave Woods, -- and what's in a job title.
Coaches have to start somewhere-- Paul March didn't do to bad for you, and for us at Hunslet in his first coaching role.

I think you will find the 'concerned' person (huntington26) is a York supporter, after all he started the thread.

Nice to hear DW was so relaxed and happy at the launch and sponsors night. I seem to remember a certain Jason Demetriou was delighted to have signed for such a professional and well run club and had high hopes for the coming season only to scarper as soon as a bigger club, Keighley came along, couldn't happen again - could it?

Yes it could and here's hoping it does, as it shows York to be a very good club, helping players and coaches get better and progress their careers - as has happened many times in the last few years. In fact, it's one of the reasons JD wanted to come to York in the first place as opposed to Hunslet, where careers effectively stall or fall.

He left to join Keighley on a full time basis as player/coach from a part time player only role at York - Why does that make Keighley a bigger club? If they were bigger they would have paid their debt to York for a play off game before they went bust! We all know both Keighley and York could become big clubs given the right stadia, as they both have the infrastructures with support and development, unlike Hunslet.

Quite understandable that York followers,(huntington26),are concerned,it is just surprising that Hunslet followers should also be interested.
It is precisely that York is such a professional and well-run club that will keep Dave at The Huntington, not to mention the owner who has to make the hard decisions and seems to be on the same wavelength as Dave when it comes to the club maximising it's potential and building for the future.
It's about time Dave Woods had a little bit of luck and the opportunity to work for a decent owner.
Perhaps you should be more concerned about Mr.March as the Featherstone fans, for some inexplicable reason, have come to the conclusion he lacks discipline. All this based on some minutes in a pre-season game.
They can't be right,can they ?

Totally agree on your last point. Playing week in week out in Championship is going to take its toll and a player/coaching role is hardly ideal. It's not as if Marchy is even full time, as far as I am aware. If one or both of March's are injured or banned for a number of games Hunslet will struggle. Also, both will be well targeted.

probably because he has no experience as a coach. a good player (as jason obviously is) does not always make a good coach.

after the way he was tossed on one side by cas i had a lot of sympathy for dave woods and have monitered his career ever since as far as i am concerned i would have loved him at hunslet so from that point of view i think you have secured a good bloke at the knights on another thread i think york and hunslet are gonna find it really tough this season and a relegation dog fight is all we can look forward to.

assume Dave Woods has not signed a contract? as there has been no confirmation for those in the know or the club

Hope he stays till the end of the season at least.
