Farewell to a brave lady who along with her courageous colleagues, took on an unscrupulous employer to try to gain union recognition. Helped to change the way female asian workers were viewed by both employersand their fellow workers.

It certainly does. The then leader of the Hull Dockers' Shop Stewards Committee, Walt Cunningham, was a friend of my parents. Walt was an old-school docker, a big, tough, rugged man. He was picketing down at Grunwick's when this runt of a rookie Met copper tried to use Walt's own tie to get a choke hold on him (the Met didn't have many tactics at the time, but that was a favourite of theirs). He just said 'I wouldn't do that if I were you son' before launching him down the street.

Sorry to hear the news and thanks to bigred for posting. Those women were an inspiration.

An incredible woman central to an event as important to the Labour Movement as Tolpuddle, Peterloo etc. Thankyou and RIP Sister and comrade!
