Didn't really take anything from that match in terms of what to look for or expect this season.
I would have gone for a refund but since an adult and child walking through the same turnstile completely perplexes the staff, I doubt id have got far with my refund request.

I took from the match that Batley should finish above the Rams this season. I think having 3 top halfbacks as aposed to 1 told today.

I think the final score was 30 - 6 to Batley, though we left a couple of minutes before the end.
Didn't really see anything promising to be honest, Faal looked ok and Austin scored our only try and the conversion was from the touchline so was a great kick.
Our defence was lazy up the middle and there was a few dropped balls a few metres out from our own line.
Both teams looked like they wanted it, but neither did anything particularly spectacular. It was pretty much one man rugby throughout.

I dont normally read much into these games either. but the scoreline and the limited time the Rams had in our 20 would worry me a little. Batley played mainly down the middle but when we did play rugby the holes in the Rams defence we all to easy to find. Im sure you will improve but not sure you have replaced your departing players with equal/better players. Nice to see some rugby and am confiedent that the Dogs will push on from last season and make the playoffs.

brambani can cause damage, annoyingly patch also but on that showing it may be a tricky start for the plucky rams.
wait till better sides tire like last year!

Quite simple - the dogs played and we didn't - shades of early 2010 I'm afraid. We need a stand off with a clue and some pace in the centre. Nothing at all to be optimistic about, and depressingly, that will probably be the starting line up + spicer and Fox. I left with 10 minutes to go for the first time since ... the last Boxing day fixture. Hope Wozza is already on the phone to France.

Bretherton was solid and Robinson injured his knee after 5 minutes.

The number 6 position isn't one of wozza's forte's is it really.
Faal looked good for the rams, thats how bad you were!
leaving with 10 mins to go, come on!
spicer, fox, brambani, austin, hayes, lockwood..... rest are squad fillers

Spot on, Chris. You could have also mentioned that all of the Batley half-backs created at least one break (as did others in the team).

What I saw was a side lacking in fitness, direction and any sort of tactical idea. Now I don't claim to be the next Wayne Bennett or Clive Woodward but I have a couple of pieces of paper tbat claim i do know something about tbe sport. I can therefore see a couple of flaws in our game plans. I think someone should tell Warren that the days of 5 runners off dummy half and a kick is not going to win us field position let alone games. In Dom and Patch we have two quality ball players, so why do we continue to only use them on the last tackle. Use one at stand off and the other at outside centre pulling strings and moving the defence about surely makes more attacking sense. Otherwise, could I suggest the club buys Austin and wainwright a couple of snoods.
Sorry to rant on and no I'm not the tactical oricle but I know I have watched enough rugby of both codes to state that one up tactics are a thing of the past. We need a genuine no.6 or 9 to enable the other two to float and bring runners into the game.
Ok rant over. Couldn't sleep due to the anger hence the stupid posting time. Mrs is annoyed as had to put light on to do it.
For our Batley friends, you have a good side there with quality individuals capable of creating space. Worked hard and showed Dews how to play modern rugby league football. As for Robinson he looks about 3st overweight for me!
Perhaps Super Duper League opposition will bring out the best in Dews.
Amen

I have to admit - I too posted last night with a real grump on - like you I made a longish journey (90miles) from my brother in laws with a wife less than enchanted about cutting short our new year festivities. I felt some deep resentment after the match at forking out entrance and beer money to see a game in which only one side looked interested. In the cold light of day, it was the first run out for us and maybe it might be a little too early for me to be looking for the happy pills, but it might be better if the alarm bells start ringing now rather than half way through the season. Most posters agree that we seem to have only one attacking stategy, ie. the hopeful lob to the corner from Brambani, who appears to be our sole playmaker. If he gets closed down there is no plan B, and that, in a nutshell, was the problem at the early part of last year. One other thing I couldn't understand was why Faal was playing, given that he seems likely to be going on an extended holiday - surely we should have played whoever Warren has in mind to replace him to get him used to the plays. I was alo left wondering why most of the replacements were left on the bench until late on in the game when the match was already lost. Couldn't think of a Dewsbury MOM, but Horton looked as though he could be a handful this season.
Only real bright spot was the attendance figure - great for both clubs, given that they were worried that the figure might be much lower than it would have been on boxing day
