Slightly disappointing from a speccies point of view and the main highlights were soaking up the somber mugs on our neighbours faces and seeing man mountain keegan hirst cut down on the final whistle.

Well done to the club for giving pat foulstone a go.
Paul hull doing the car park tickets.
Dane manning, Rettie and Breth look really useful.
Robinson, erm?
The midfield linking of Mennel and Moore looks like a winning formulation.

Think we played well but didn't really stretch ourselves.
Think Dews looked poor in the forward's but they have some lad's to come in.
Can't read owt into just yet but happy with the win.

Batley never play well under soggy turf, the game was a typical xmas hit up but surprisingly the forwards worked harder than the three quarters.

Tiger a little quiet but the possibility of mennel and Moore working together is exciting!

I though handforth opened a few gaps first half but lacked a bit of pace to go clear up the hill

Dane Manning really impressed me too, he seemed to be involved in everything

Who was injured in the warm up for dewsbury?

Not disappointing from a Batley point of view at all!! A decent run out with all the new boys showing up well, bar Robinson. (Any news on the injury?)

Was particularly impressed with Manning and Williams, Rettie looked powerful, and Mennell looked dangerous going downhill.

A decent enough run out particularly as Handforth, Walton and Hesketh only played small parts!

Moore's try was pleasing and thought we looked powerful running downhill.

Not sure of the Dewsbury first team, how it will differ from that of today but they looked to be rather dependent on Brambani to direct things. I thought out defnce seemed to be in control for most of the match. It was low on excitement due to the control Batley had in the match, but nonetheless satisfying to get a win, even in the first run out of the season.

Agree on certain game points old lad but the dogs 3/4's were lethargic and in a game were faal, patch and england stand out for the opposition; is always gonna appear dire.

was walton playing?

as per the dogs stand off and wait for the opposing number 7, but all the rams had to attack was a deep over lapping man with a telepathic on rushing youngster on the pass.

Walton was not on the pitch at all during the second half at all, i do not think. I think you are being too negative. The three quarters were ok in my opinion, in conditions that were not great underfoot. Sorry, but you had lost me by the third paragraph!

My point was/ is is that We would expect Dewsbury to be close to us this season, and without playing our full team for all the match we won comfortably. While it may not have been the most important match, what it proved to me was that we have decent strength in depth and should go well this season.

Distant, would we be realistically expectant; that the rams who make light work of tired and depleted teams to flatter their 2010 existence to turn us over at ours on a muddy mount pleasant turf?

granted the game was labored but victorious, but read nowt into it both teams were slow and playing some sort of diluted game plan.

wozza and the rhino would be far from content.

' Oller, as we have found out during the past season, any team can beat any other in our division. It does not matter whether you or anyone believe that Dewsbury flattered their existence(whatever that means) last season, they are in our division and therefore should be seen as competitors, and close ones at that. Noone would claim that it was a perfect performance, but there were encouraging signs I believe, or do you disagree?

While Harrison may be far from content, he would be slightly more encouraged that his counterpart.

Well I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed today.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Rams broke our line exactly no (zero, zip, none) times, and without knowing the stats, I don't think we missed a single tackle.

Add to this only a handful of penalties and errors conceded, an astonishing performance by Paul Mennell on his return and some superb work from Dane Manning (I could go on but I'll only big-up debutants).

For me the only down side's of today were conceding a try and the injury to Robinson.

I know it means nothing, but the most pleasing 'Boxing Day' victory I can remember.

huh.gif I thought Tiger was superb first half - he only made one mistake with a kick straight to them. He pulled all the strings up to HT then Moore stepped up to the plate.

Amen to that, I was beginning to doubt myself! And feel free to big up the debutants. I thought they all showed up well, especially Manning. Williams looked really solid.

Still a long way to go but at least we seem to be moving forward.

The pleasing thing for me was that we won comfortabley and i dont think we got out of second gear. Dewsbury couldnt break us down and whenever they seemed to step it up we upped the intensity of our defence and forced an error. Its early days but we should improve just as much as Dewsbury need to, so could be a promising season. JC in attendance today any news on his plans for next season?

That is the really worrying thing - we didn't make one solitary break all afternoon, looked to have one attacking plan (hopeful lob to the corner), and looked so disinterested that we couldn't even be a**ed to chase the kicks - most of which were pathetic anyway. We have just one creative player in Brambani, so its easy to close him down, and after that there is no plan B. In truth Batley weren't brilliant, but then they didn't need to be. The sad thing is that I would put money on that being our starting thirteen for the season, with Rob Spicer and Mathew fox also being involved and few changes to the replacements. Things can only get better - if they don't we will be hoping for other clubs going t**s up again.
