Only managed to listen to the last 15 mins on radio Cumbria, that man Cox is fuddled, every time a haven player was tackled it was high or some one was getting roughed up, a town player took a knock and went down and Cox accused him of time wasteing, neither him or the Muppet that was summerising gave town any credit and where only saying how well haven had come back in the second half. Wake up Mr Cox 4 tries to 2 on your own ground is not good.

well town will certainly improve with more games,as after the first 15 mins were we ripped them apart,we seemed to be struggling for fitness.matty was man of the match, and anyone who thinks brett carter should play anywhere other than full back didnt see him play today, his kick return for kaighan first super try was fantastic, and his last man tackle on farrer as he was going under the sticks was superb.i thought shacks had a really good game as did olstrum.the backs were pretty quite and mossop missed a few tackles by being far too aggressive.stacky was unuasualy quite but thats a good sign as we didnt really need him to be on top form.i also thought bamber was decent, and although probably could not see him be used all season will be a good deputy to whoever comes in.but its a good solid win, with plenty to build on and a good solid squad.also the town fans were easily the louder out the two sets.well done and heres to the new season

Err Olstrum, got to disagree there, his go forward wasnt to bad but coughed the ball up loads of times...

He also created 3 or 4 very good chances, I would prefer him to keep trying things rather than just run it in.

Just when you thought Radio Cumbria couldn't get any worse they go and stick Town Hater Martin Morgan in there with Cox
Well done to the Boys today, it was a great moral booster for the coming season.

I think to be honest both teams will improve on todays performance as the season gets going. It was fairly obvious that they had missed out on a lot of training and the match became a "knockonathon". It would be unfair to judge any player on todays match but I have to agree with wonky about Carter and I'm sure he'll take the league by storm this season. Matty showed Haven what they will be missing and caused them many a problem.
After going 14 points up and having had two tries disallowed I think we took our foot off the pedal a bit and started missing tackles and Haven got back in to the game. The lack of fitness told on both teams well in to the second half. For Haven I thought Fox and Culnean played well and the young stand-off looked quite capable once he had settled down.
All in all both clubs will be glad of the run out and the crowd of 1,227 have had a "fix" of live rugby league to put them on until February when the NR Cup starts. Oh and Town have won the Ike Cup for the first time.

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

When I got back to the car to journey home I put on Radio Cumbria and they had switched to the soccer but the chap in the studio said, "Workington have beaten Whitehaven 20 - 12 in todays match at Whitehaven. It was only a friendly, if there can be such a thing between the two but congratulations to Whitehaven for surviving and being able to carry on".
You couldn't make it up could you?

Seriously? So we beat them at the wreck for the first time since 93 and they still get the praise. Such a ###### radio station at times.

Yep, not trying to put a downer on any of it, just pointing it out, lots of good points from the lad and the rest of the team, both sides rusty and can only get better with fitness and practice, lets hope we get a lot better than them....

I thought havens stand out players today were McAvoy Palfrey and Culnean, don’t rate Farrer and some of Daltons passing was erratic to say the least at times, Olstrum done some good hard work in both defence and attack, Matty was just Matty 110%, think Town will build from today’s game and will be one of the leading teams in the league this season,
