This is very impressive - so much so, in fact, that I'm struggling to believe that it's what it appears to be.

Could it be that the better records keeping is showing that the game was more popular than previously believed, as opposed to such huge gains in a single year or so?

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Yeah they mention they have a more up to date tech that helps accurately detect playing numbers so it's possible. Either way its good to see good numbers.

It sure is! We in RL have long been cursed by comparatively poor management and leadership from the top of our respective governing bodies - it seems this is finally changing.

Exactly. I like the way they said they were at their lowest ebb when they won the world cup. It would have been easy to use that to paper over the cracks and muddle on. As Marx said you've gotta start by looking at how the world is not how you want it to be.

karl marx works were an analysis of capitalism as it existed in britain

his main conclusion was that capitalists were making profits by exploiting their workers

from his theories a bolshevik revolution in russia was enacted which eliminated private property ownership, with the means of production state owned

the fundamental underpinnings of marx's work was that exploitation of workers led to surplus value for the capitalist

as any first year economics student can tell you every factor of production has a rate of return ie :

land - rent
labour - wages
capital - profits

etc

so marx confused surplus value with the returns for profitable entreuprenship ie profits

without the profit motive people wouldnt take risks

it is risk taking which causes economics to grow

basically half of europe will lead poor lives for generations because marx had a misunderstanding of simple economics
