I've just read this on the BBC. Asking people to buy 1000 pounds of shares to raise 500k.

Bye bye Wakefield.

It's a lot of ask 500 people, or groups of people to put that in. Also then where would it leave them after that? No doubt the RFL will let them fade away.
Something apparently seen, heard, or sensed, but having no physical reality!

Looks like the end of the road for the Wildcats.
Falling into place nicely for the RFL who have been advocating for months now that a merger between Cas and Wakefield was the only way forward for both clubs.
Problem solved of which scapegoat to boot out of Super League.
A once great traditional club is destined for the scrap heap thanks to the shortsighted ambitions of the expansionists.
In the present financial climate I personally find it astounding that part of the Super League criteria should be based on the standard of stadia rather than just the ability of a club to compete on the field. Given the financial state of the game and the fact that most clubs outside of Super League are dying on their feet, surely this is purely a nice to have and not a necessity.
I propose a vote of no confidence in the administrators of our great game !!!!

You make some good points, but Wakefield have only themselves to blame, regardless of whether or not the treatment dealt to them by the RFL is fair or not. They entered SL in 1998, based on the proviso that they would either ( A ) Make ground improvements, or ( B ) Build a new ground within five years. Apart from a load of portakabins lumped on top of each other at one end of Belle Vue, they've done absolutely nothing to improve the stadium, and have fiddled around making false promises about a new ground development for years and years and years. During the 11/12 years they've been in the top flight, they've had access to millions upon millions of pounds of SKY television money, and have been able to attract decent crowds which should have made the club self-sustainable. Sorry, but I've got no sympathy, and for an established club to be on the verge of financial ruin despite all the benefits they've been afforded and the existence of a good fan base, its pretty pathetic. Where has all the money at that club disappeared to, because they don't seem to splash out on marquee signings and certainly not ground development?!

What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

agree with your points i remember wakey coming to craven park in the challenge cup and bringing a good following with them.Do wakefield own their ground or is it rented off the council.with the support they have been getting and the sky money they have had for the last 10 years they could of at least look at making slight improvements to their ground,or is this a sign that rugby league is definitely not a good business venture especially with what sky are asking clubs too do in regards to getting their grounds up to scratch.got to feel for the wakefield supporters their the ones that suffer the most through all this.

It's S***e that the RFL are going to let it happen if it was Wakefield Crusaders it would be a different story.

i dont think it would matter what there name is at the end of the day if wakefield cant carry on trading after receiving the sky money for the last ten 10 yrs and have no plans to upgrade their stadium what can they do.its a dog eat dog world out there at the moment and the people in charge of the sky circus have to make a decision based on history which shows that wakefield no matter how hard they try just cant keep their heads above water, dont get me wrong neither can crusaders but it looks like the rfl are giving them a chance to prove that they can keep their club in order financially and this will no doubt be their last chance which will no doubt fail miserably again and the rfl will use their magic wand to try and cover up their massive losses after bailing them out and then writing off the debt after finally admitting that rugby league in wales is not wanted after wasting thousands of pounds on a lost cause.

Wakefield sold their ground a while ago to a developer with a clause that they could hang around and play there until the new stadium was built. The developer has finally had enough of the false promises and wants to build on the land so they have got to get out.

So, not only have they had the sky money, supporters money and all the other trimmings, they have also had (and spent!!) the money they received for the ground as well.

If anyone wants any financial advice, contact Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and ask them for guidance. All you need to do then is exactly the opposite of what they say and you should be ok wink.gif

Couldt agree more, The RFL are happy to let a club with the stature/history of Wakefield struggle, and potentially go under for good, whilst simultaniously throwing money at clubs like Harlequins and Crusaders without realising that they are, like necrofeliac whose into bestalitiy, flogging a dead horse!
The RFL headquarters is a joke, and its at a detriment to our great game. A clear case of Lions led by Donkeys yet again.
Wakefield will be relegated, in place of a team who will offer nothing more - namely Widnes.
