Yes, that would be appropriate for him.

I'd agree. Tower of London.
Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
Any suggestion of a lenient sentence for blatent and outright theft from the public purse is frankly preposterous.

A bit lightweight that. I'd suggest that he be sentenced to work as public toilet cleaner on Hampstead Heath with every hour worked deducted from the amount he took in fraudulent expenses until he reaches £0 balance.
Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

It's not a question of coming down to earth, Mr Duxbury. Some of us, Mr Duxbury, belong in the stars.

he isn't dangerous
he's betrayed what passes for our democracy
sweeping the streets of Oldham for eighteen months unpaid I feel would have been more apt and cheaper, leaving his prison place for someone a little more threatening.

Make him drag a cross from westminster to his constituency and then symbolically nail him to it.

According to Barry Sheerman there are plenty of MP's in all parties who've done much worse than Chaytor, but got away with it because they were in the party's "inner circle" so to speak. He thinks there should be a full enquiry into the circumstances of the whole affair.

Perhaps when every businessman who's also fiddled expenses and ripped off the state through tax evasion is made to do the same it will be appropriate.

Is that the Barry Sheerman who, according to "They Work for You" voted moderately against a transparent Parliament? Changed his mind has he?
Have you read the court reports about Chaytor? "Chaytor pleaded guilty to forging tenancy documents and invoices to claim false expenses for rent and IT work"
and these cheating business men you know who have escaped detection? Who would they be?

Dickhead / dik-HED / noun
1. A person who gets a hard-on at locking up an elected official who has diddled £20,000ish from the public purse but at the same time follows a personal political agenda that allows the unelected to diddle £trillions causing a global economic meltdown and then sending the bill to us to pay out of that same public purse.

Chator is now a convicted liar, thief and cheat who has breached the trust of all of us. Looks like he'll still get his severance pay and MPs pension.
There's another one up for trial this week with more to follow.
There can be no excuses, no sympathy for these people whatever their political affiliations.

It's about time one of the lefties on here defined 'businessman'
There seems to be a misguided conception that a 'businessman' looks like a Victorian mill owner with waistcoat, chain and fob watch, bowler hat and big cigar or else is a city of London stockbroker spiv with red braces and a Porsche
The reality is the bloke round the corner from me who owns a plumbers merchant and employs four people is a 'businessman', so is the lady opposite who runs her sweet shop, as are the lads in the chip shop next door
The insinuation that if you own or run a SME or are self-employed then you are probably decieptful and a tax dodger is tiresome and naieve
