noticed this on skysports news and looked it up and found this below, definately good news for worky!

Hull Kingston Rovers have gone into partnership with National League club Workington Town...

The venture will see the sides meet for a pre-season friendly at Derwent Park on Saturday 29th January (kick-off: 2pm).

A function will be held to officially launch the partnership the evening before the match with Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan set to be in attendance and Stuart Cummings acting as guest speaker.

Rovers Chief Executive, Mike Smith, believes there will be mutual benefits for both clubs.

"We're very pleased to forge a partnership with Workington and look forward to sharing knowledge and experience with them both on and off the field," said Smith.

"It's an exciting link-up between the two clubs and we're very much looking forward to working closely with everyone at Workington who, just like at Hull KR, are very passionate about helping their club continuously improve and develop."

Workington Chairman, Dave Bowden commented: "We've been looking to link-up with a Super League club for a while now and we're delighted that the partnership is with Hull KR.

"Both Cumbria and Hull are hotbeds of rugby league talent and I'm certain the partnership will enable both clubs to develop."

Not necessarily, as we don't think we are a second rate club. I'm sure our two inexperienced coaches can pick up quite a bit from a full-time professional Super League club for starters. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

I seem to remember that we arranged a link up with Saints when Ade Gardner was transferred. i think it ended up as a damp squib, though.

They will have a target at town once they have them then that will be it, it happens every year with one club or another. They do it to benefit them selves only and don't give a s**t about us smaller clubs.
