Crowd of 975. Barrow 30 Swinton 28.

The first 20 minutes were excellent. The ball was thrown about at every opportunity and good tries were scored by Liam Campbell and James Nixon. Really good to watch. After that Swinton got more and more on top and in the end Barrow ended playing more and more down the middle and one man rugby. Barrow were a better and faster side but I think were very lucky to win in the end. Mark Smith made a difference to Swinton when he came on. It was pleasing to see good performances from Harrison and Fletcher and they looked a lot fitter than last season.

It must be remembered that we were without Catic, Rooney, Gleason, Broadbent & Luisi.

Overall it was good to be back at CP and I'm looking forward to seeing us play Workington next week. I just hope some of the performance doesn't put off many supporters, it's certainly better than football.

Unfortunately I was unable to go today, however I wandered over to CP after work to seek some reaction etc. Considering we were without the handful of players as mentioned, we cant be too critical of the performance. It was our first game of the pre-season, which in itself offers a suggestion that the performance was going to be rusty in areas. Think we need to take some positives from the result, such as Nixon getting a try on his comeback game, and the team showing some glimpses of attractive rugby. Give the team time; we have a new coaching setup aswell as new players, they will produce the goods. ROLL ON NEXT WEEK!

ps) anybody aware of what happened to Coyle? Saw him walking out the ground on crutches dry.gif

Where were Gleeson and Rooney? We only named a 16 man team and dragged someone in from the street to make up the 17!!

Coyle injury looks serious, and the substitutions were baffling!!! Apart for Coyles injury there were no other subs in the 1st half and we then waited until 10 mins from the end to make another couple.

Well that was a typical pre season game, pretty rusty mainly, just what you'd expect. I had to laugh at the people who were shouting that Barrow were a disgrace eveytime Swinton scored, get a grip!! I thought Liam Harrison looked a different player to last season, a lot fitter and faster. Add the players that were missing today and they will be fine this season, just hope James Coyle's injury isn't to bad. Bring on Workington now!

Totally agree, the players are human beings for god sake.. most of them havent played a competitive game in months, they need time to settle back into the routine, thats what pre-season fixtures are organised for.

Crowd was 970 odd i think. Found it a bit strange how 2 props did the 1st half and the other 2 did the 2nd half, suppose it's knocking fitness into them! The go forward was a lot better in the 1st half with Thackery and James in my opinion. Ostler had a very good game. Wasn't impressed with the triallist, dont think he is what the club need. Like i said before, add Rooney, Catic, Luisi, Gleeson and hopefully Broadbent and a couple of new signings and things will be ok.

Enjoyed the game and well worth coming home for the weekend. I thought we could use all the squad? If any of them are lacking match fitness then playing short spells in the game would benefited them. And we would have seen a better result, however it doesn’t matter at this stage of the season I suppose.

I think swinton grew in confidence as the game went on and looked particularly sharp when Mark Smith was on the field. as i've said I thought Barrow overall were a better side but if I was steve Mac I'd be a bit sick that they did not take the spoils. Thev look quite a uswful side for championship 1.

The announced attendance was 975.

Does anyone know the official "Teamsheet", I was walking round to the Duke Street stand to try and get some warmth, when the team was announced. My feet were absolutely "blocks of ice" in the stand. Mark (Ferret) is it possible to receive a "Teamsheet" please, after each home & away game.
