Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

You know, I actually turn off from any media mentioning anything to do with him.

It stems from the two year US election campaign waged by the BBC and fought unremittingly by the Grauniad. I got so fed up with his name, how he was the second coming and how he would reinvent the world whilst leading us to the broad sunlit uplands that eventually, I actually wanted him to lose.

As for his time in office, well he's as dishwater a President as I can ever remember and I don't think he has any love for the UK. Which, I have to admit will not do us any harm whatsoever. I can't remember the last time I heard that snivelling expression "special relationship" and if I never hear it again, it'll be too soon. It also pains me to say it, but Cameron seems a lot more dignified in his relationship with the US than Blair ever did. And Brown appeared desperate and snivelling as to be an embarrasment to all of us.

Maybe if Obama loses the next US election, the UK media can get on with normal coverage of the US primaries and elections in future, safe in the knowledge that the "black president" box has been ticked and when another black contender appears in the future, he/she will be subjected to the normal political scrutiny which anyone would expect. I think that will serve us all a good deal better.

Here endeth my 2p.

What was wrong with the existing thread called 'Barack Obama', which addresses how and why Obama has been promoted way above his capabilites?
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Whatever you say about him don't forget he is far superior in every way to the previous incumbent (or for that matter the geriatric war monger that the Republicans had lined up to replace him).

What's the evidence that he is actually better though? (and I'm not saying he isn't)

Not being George Bush might seem like an improvement, but is it? Americans don't seem that impressed and he does seem decidely anti British.

It seems to me that Obama has a few reasons for his limited popularity in the US.

Firstly, Americans are not really aware that the recession is global and that the USA has come through it quite well. There are bad areas, but things are good here and certainly better than the UK.

Many Americans feel he does not represent them, which is why they are annoyed by him spending any money as opposed to Bush spending twice as much. We often here that there is no class conflict here, that is nonsense. However, the old=Labour style person in the USA might well vote Republican as both parties are for middle to upper classes and the one that promises to do least is therefore least against your interests.

This has made the debate poisonous.

Thirdly, the expectations were unreasonable.

Do I? I think you may be confusing me with someone else, as what I've written above is about all I can ever remember writing about Obama. If you think those few paragraphs count as wittering, it's going to very quiet on here for everyone.

Dishwater - as in "dull as". I just feel he lacks any warmth or charisma.

Anything else you don't like?

I look forward to seeing their new strongest friend backing them up when they pick a new country to liberate (invade).

The last government were convinced that we were there to do their bidding. They wasted vast quantities of our money in order to spy on us, intimidate us and needlessly over regulate us, whilst gold plating their own pensions and expenses. Their behind the scenes encouragement of, and turning a blind eye to, the kettling and harrassment tactics of the Police are a shameful episode in our history which we need to remember and address urgently.

the "special relationship" exists solely in the minds of british politicians and journalists. As far as the yanks are concerned we're airstrip 51 and a source of cannon fodder.
