A world cruise in an airship. Interesting idea. What is the range of these flying machines?

The last government were convinced that we were there to do their bidding. They wasted vast quantities of our money in order to spy on us, intimidate us and needlessly over regulate us, whilst gold plating their own pensions and expenses. Their behind the scenes encouragement of, and turning a blind eye to, the kettling and harrassment tactics of the Police are a shameful episode in our history which we need to remember and address urgently. - Haloman

Depends if it's made out of Led (sic) or not.

There have been a fair number of attempts over the years to reintroduce a modernised version of the airship. One of my favourites is this 'whale' concept by the designer Luigi Colani. Imagine this swimming overhead!

Fabulous. It would be great if this sort of thing could come to fruition.

Should be no problem. It wouldn't have to land - we have a very long ladder!

There was an airship built in Yorkshire in the lat 20's/early 30's. The R100. At Howden. It was superior to the ill fated R101, and flew to Canada and back without mishap. But the R101 crashed in France en-route to India, in an attempt to prove is was as good as the R100 and the R100 was subeqently scrapped without any further flights.

In the early 1990s I visited Slingsby Aviation near Kirkymoorside. Slingsby had acquired some of the rights to the airship designed by Airship Industries, who had just gone into liquidation. I was trying to sell them a CAD system, an early version of Microstation on proprietary workstations. The older engineers amongst you may remember the Versatec electrostatic plotter - I think the price of that killed the deal.
I think the airship was a Skyship 500 - but it was 20 years ago!
