York City Knights are pleased to announce that 20% of the proceeds from Sundays Paul Higgins memorial match against the Castleford Tigers will be donated to Higgo's 13 A Side Rugby Foundation. To date the Foundation has raised around £10,000 for junior Rugby League in York and North Yorkshire and the Knights are pleased to be able to support the fund. At the match volunteers from the Foundation will be doing a bucket collection and a raffle to raise further funds for the cause. Commenting on the news Knights General Manager and Higgo's 13 A Side Rugby Foundation committee member Ian Wilson said,
"We are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic cause. Higgo's 13 A Side Rugby Foundation is extremely important to many of the staff and players at the club, as well as the wider Rugby League community, and we hope that Sundays match will be even more successful than in previous years".
Sundays match kicks off at 3pm at the Huntington Stadium and turnstiles open at 1:30pm. Supporters with tickets can access Bar 13 from 12:30pm via the information point in main reception. Entry to the match is £13 Adults, £10 Concessions (Over 65's & Students with a valid Student card) and £5 U16's. A £2 transfer to seating is payable once inside the ground.
Both Castleford Coach Terry Matterson and Knights Coach Dave Woods are expected to name their squads on Thursday and Friday respectively and and both are set to feature several first team squad members. Both teams will have players with connections to Paul Higgins in Jack Stearman, of the Knights, and Sam Orange of Casteleford who were coached by Paul in the North Yorkshire Service Area, Knights Scholarship and Knights Academy (Stearman), and Stearman in particular has extremely fond memories of Paul,
"Paul was great to work with and he taught me a lot about the game. I know he will be pleased to see me making my mark in the first team and i will be trying my very best to put in a performance he would be proud off on Sunday".
