"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Why would you do that , unless they have injuries etc Surely you want to give them game time in prep for the new season .

Looking at our squad numbers we had Miller, Mossop, MacDonald, Jackson, King, Coward, Olstrum, Pedley and Holt missing today. Some are injured and some had work commitments so do we need more strength in depth?

I cannot see the need to get in a tizz over the result today,it was a workout for the lads who played and for the coaches to see IF! we need to strengthen. There was 5 of the players keith mentioned that are carrying injuries, not big injuries, but one's that a rest rather than playing will cure. The game today was only a friendly but you have to take a good look at the Barrow team before any of us judge the way that our lads played, barrow have got a good side in the making and playing them at home certainly doe's us know favours and the same will be for anyother team that set's foot in the ground when get to their full compliment of players who are going to sign for them, for me we have far more important games to look ahead to rather than a friendly at barrow and has i have said it's just another match fitness game to get the lads ready for the new season.I would like to think we would have a game or two at home rather than travel to barrow, why can't they come up here next year and make it just like ike's game has we do for whitehaven, but i can understand some fans will be a bit disappointed with the result and the team but i believe it will turn itself around when the real season begins.......

Town played well in first half, were denied three times over the line due to some pretty good Barrow defence, but in the second half Barrow got into their stride & Town did well to contain them as much as they did. I'd like to see the penalty count though, Town gave away daft penalty after penalty which kept them on the back foot. We generally defended well, but were a bit light in the forwards & disorganised in attack. The final score is pretty much what I'd expect (but not hoped for), though Town deserved to get onto the scoresheet due to their 1st half efforts.

as you say,it was probably because they were playing against the club they were deemed not good enough for.kaighan certainly wasnt a dirty player last year, unless ginge has been giving him tackling lessons.
