Probably going to make this match this year's weekend away match for me and a few mates.
Most likely will stay Friday to Monday in the centre of London and travel out for the match on the Saturday afternoon rather than staying on the outskirts for 3 nights!!
Do any other Swinton fans use this one as a weekend away? I've been to the Skolars once before a few years ago but as I was driving and I didn't visit any pubs.....is there anything decent nearby??

It's always a good weekend away, and booking this far ahead you can get some bargains accomodation and transport wise.
Whilst I wouldn't recommend going for the "family run guest houses" around King's Cross, you can get good value Travelodge's booking this far ahead. I'm going to Skolars v Quins next Friday and managed to get a room for only £30 between two in a decent location at a branded hotel, booking ahead.
Islington is a pleasant place to stay - 5 to 10 mins on the bus or tube from King's Cross or Euston, but no Travelodge/Premier Inn type places. There is something for everyone - decent selection of real ale pubs, modern bars, live music and late-night venues, but less commercial than central London. £3 for a decent pint is standard everywhere, but at least here you get good quality beer and few tourists.
Skolars is dead easy to get to from King's Cross or Islington - direct tube to Wood Green (15 mins walk to ground), or from Islington you can catch the same tube from Caledonian Road. Alternatively you can get British Rail from Essex Road in Islington direct to Alexandra Palace, which is maybe 20 mins walk from the ground.
Not much choice in Wood Green, where the ground is, though. I think there is a Wetherspoons by the tube station, but it isn't the nicest area TBH. When I walked past last month the Skolars pub looked shut.

The club where Eurovision isn't a dirty word. A waltz through the leopard skin lined world of Tom Jones, Bert Kampfert and Burt Bacharach. Step out to the sound of the happy hammond and swing to the seductive sounds of the samba.
DJ's, raffles, cocktails and wide collars. Please dress smart. Gentlemen might like to wear a suit.
Same price. Same music. Same rubbish prizes.

No wonder the Skolars pub was a rat hole.
You can't go far wrong at the ground itself.

Would imagine quite a few will be making a weekend of it particularly with the saturday afternoon kick off.I have a feeling that Skolars do a deal with certain London hotels offering reduced rates, may be worth emailing them. The Skolar pub has gradually deteriorated over the last few years.Just down the road is the Wood Green Social Club which is excellent and where we will be going again this year. The steward was very welcoming,I posted on the main forum last season suggesting it to fans of other clubs. Also if you book well in advance you can get really good deals on the train.I also stayed over after the South Wales game in Neath at the Castle Hotel which was the birthplace of the Welsh Rugby Union.Very reasonable rates although they wouldnt let me take my kebab upto my room. Not sure if youd fare any better with a woman!

Thanks for the info guys. Islington looks like a good bet - pretty good for access to the centre of London sightseeing - if we can get out of the pubs!!!
We tend to make a really long weekend of it and stay away for 3 nights. If anybody else is making a weekend of it let us know and we'll try and meet up for a few beers.

Me and the boss might be going down. She's never been to London and wants to go, and I thought that would be the perfect weekend, 2 birds, 1 stone
Last time I went to London last year with work, there was a pub in Fulham called the Slug@Fulham and it was all drinks £1.50, don't know if they still do that though.

A few years back didnt the Lions fans and the Skolars fans have a friendly rugby match before the game? I have a vague memory of reading it somewhere
