I would suggest that triumphalism on the back of two friendlies might be a wee bit premature. Two good wins so far, for sure, but see what the real season brings before sounding off too much.

Mr Johnny, if we can't be triumphalist, and indeed premature, on our own board, where can we be?

Don't worry DD, BSJ's only jealous. The only place he gets to be triumphalist and premature is in his bedroom!

Don't contradict BSJ, Morleydog - he's quite right.
We ought to have beaten Dewsbury by more. That clearly constitutes a "poor" win, and so we've only had two "good" ones.
Some may argue that any win against Dewsbury is good, but - as Einstein stated - it's all relative.

Very touchy you lot this season. I do hope that a little bit of success hasn't gone to your heads.

Enjoy the season proper when it eventually begins.

Agree totally Bob. What makes me smile is the fact that no-one appears to want to win a trophy when they have lost. Yes, they may be 'meaningless games' to some people but they are totally missing the point.

1) Northern Rail Cup--called the 'Mickey Mouse cup by lots of people-- Gives you access to other avenues and BIG publicity. Priceless to the Bulldogs.

2) Roy Powell Trophy-- Try telling his family it's a 'nowt of a game' !!!

3) Champion of Champions---Your telling me Matt Calland didn't want to win it??. Instigated by HALIFAX and BATLEY , Taken on board by the sponsors of BOTH trophies, Accepted by the RUGBY LEAGUE, all these organisations didn't think it a waste of time.

4) Every player taking the field , in whatever type of game, wants to win. If not they shouldn't be playing.

Just my thoughts .

Is and always will be the Mickey Mouse Cup - its increase in status was necessitated by Widnes' inability to win a Grand Final.

Spoken like someone who never has (and probably never will) win the trophy. If you'd experienced the day and emotion we had in Blackpool, you really wouldn't be making sour-grapes statements like those.

But this is probably the only cup that a player in the Championship ever has a chance to win, so why should it be "Mickey Mouse"?

The problem with its perception is that the group stages are played at the start of the season, and thus are looked upon as still being pre-season friendlies. IMO the season should start with two league matches, home and away, followed by two NR Cup matches, home and away, then repeat. In that way the cup would increase in prestige in that the matches would have more meaning.

If any team dewcides not to take the NRC seriously, that's their look out.
The biggest problem with the competition is the apparent arbitary nature of the opening stages.
For example, are games against Toulouse (A), Keighley (H), Doncaster (A) and Barrow (H) equivalent to games against Leigh (H), Hunslet (A), Gateshead (H) and Halifax (A)? One team plays 2 x CC + 2 x CC1 teams, the other plays 3 x CC + 1 x CC1.

He may not have won the trophy but Dewsbury won the Trans Penine Cup in 2000, the fore runner to the Northern Rail Cup. It might not have been in Blackpool or on the TV but you are wrong.

One hell of a prediction as well.

So did we, funnily enough, two years earlier ... long time ago, different competition. I think it's fair to say the NRC is harder to win than the Trans Pennine Cup was. Last year we had to beat teams like Sheffield, Leigh and Widnes to win it. Three of the better teams in the division. And it was hard to do. Still, I think Rams fans should feel free to mock that achievement if they choose to do so. Doesn't half sound like "well, it's a rubbish Cup cos we can't win it, though".

If Dewsbury take the approach their supporters do to winning the NRC, they'll never win it, trust me. Please feel free to come back and correct me when you have won it, though. I will be ready to eat humble pie.

I'd love to know how they work out those games. Like having to go to Gateshead and Whitehaven last season.

As far as I am concerned, every game is important if I've paid to see it, and I include friendlies in that category, especially when they involve us and the dogs - which I believe puts me at odds with our coach and apparently many Rams supporters. Believe me, I would happily take the mickey mouse cup and the champion of champions trophy (except at the expense of our championship survival) , and quite frankly I AM jealous - but well done anyway.
