Top drawer display of finishing by Deadly Denis Tuffour, who came in looking for work at every opportunity and ended up with a well deserved hat trick of tries - the second of which was all down to his pace and desire.
Thought 'Sparky' Barlow had a good game, organising well and his passing was generally crisp and accurate. Very impressed with young Jordan Rice during his stint on the field and Chris Williams looked as committed as ever.
Jack Stearman took on a more senior role in a young side and led by example with some good drives and a try.
Steve Lewis looked pretty sharp and had a couple of assists in there.
As was said, the result wasn't important but the Knights almost pulled off a win and only the inventiveness of future SL stars Clark abd Brierley stifled that outcome.
Oh, and all in a very good cause..

discipline and skills on display.Trying to vary the play and trying things which even if it didn't come off, didn't faze them at all.
After Cas got off to a flyer and having York under the cosh for the opening 10 or so minutes I thought the run by Jack Stearman was the turning point. It was interesting to see the Cas side kick the ball away, fail to retrieve it and lose their composure,in this billed as a pre-season 'friendly',and had it not been for 2 errors by YCK players would have been behind at the break.
For a side recently brought together causing such discomfort against a side which has probably been together for some considerable time this was no mean achievement.
Jack Stearman spoke eloquently about the late Paul Higgins and his display would have been appreciated.
One player who did surprise me with his ability to move the ball accurately,at speed, left and right from the floor
was Andy Gray
A very good team effort, greatly appreciated.Well done to the coaching team who stood in the rain throughout,(when it was raining) and to Mark Barlow who marshalled the young players.
Augurs very well for the future and demonstrates the value of men/people like the late Paul Higgins.

Thought Burnsie did OK, there were some big units in that Cas pack including Thompson so it was a tough ask for the guys up front but they held their own I thought.
Enjoyed Davey's impromptu chip over the defence late on......

deserved better support.
Very impressed with all our young lads, don't think Cas went for
as many subs as us , which maybe proved the difference result wise.
DW mentioned before the game about some of the younger lads
who are just getting a chance & trying to make their way in the
game, having their confidence knocked by comments from supporters
on message boards etc, so maybe a bit of food for thought there.
Personally try to say who's played well on here, sure the coaching
staff we have can deal with those who are not doing the right things.
One more thing, DW mentioned about trying to sign Dylan Nash,
Press reckons he's had an offer he can't refuse to stay at Halifax,
which is not good news for me.

I thought the crowd was pretty good yesterday to be honest. £13 to watch a reserve grade friendly isn't cheap and I actually though twice whether to go or not. Glad I did though as it was a very entertaining game, better than last week, and quite a few of the young lads looked very capable to me. Nice to have some strength in depth 'cos we're going to need it throughout a season without a doubt. It will have done players like Jack Stearman and Steve Lewis some good to play a game as the senior players too, I though Lewis in particular had a storming game when he was on.

Know there's been a lot said about the ticket offer not been
advertised enough, but 4 games for £30 - £7.50 a game is
good.
Could argue that if people had bothered to attend the Sponsers
night, which provided income for the club, they would have heard
the ticket offer details.

It's easy to see that it can be a real confidence knock, particularly to some of the younger lads and thankfully, up to now, this week, there has been none of it.
One can argue that people are free to voice an opinion if they wish but, occasionally, it can be quite damaging to what the coaching staff are trying to achieve, even more so before a ball has been carried in anger, so to speak.

I agree Andy, unfortunately no-one can stop anyone having an opinion on a players performance on here, it'd be advisable for players to stay away from fans forums if they are of a sensitive nature! One thing for us all to bear in mind when commenting, these lads are all playing at a far higher standard that 99.9% of people who post on here ever have, and would totally smash the ###### out of us on a Rugby pitch.

At the end of the day, kids did well. See Hunslets 1st team stars could not beat Rhinos 2nd string of youngsters. Also, regarding yesterdays attendance. I thought is was quite good as the price was excessive, but I believe that crowd was better than Hunslets 2010 title winning season average!!

True on both counts in my case, Simon and, at my age, they'd smash the **** out of me if I accidentally walked into one of 'em !!!

Enjoyed the game, thought it was an entertaining contest with some decent rugby played with a fair amount of skill and ability on show from both sides.

Why does another clubs average have anything to do with your teams gate? Surely you look at the your own teams attendance from the previous season and try and build it from there, not look at another clubs attendance & say as long as its better than their attendance then thats reasonable for your own team.

Just a thought from Sunday, a lot of people, including those who matter,
seem very impressed with Ed Smith, his tackling in particular.
Know we are looking at playing him in the back row, so just wonder if he
might become this seasons Luke Hardbottle......
