I don't think they have signed, just putting themselves in the window..
I'm not 100% but I'm sure I heard Widnes let Doran and Smith go to bring their wage bill down, I maybe wrong..

But if he ain't got a club he will need to drop his demand.
A lad from walney???
A lad from walney???
Something apparently seen, heard, or sensed, but having no physical reality!

Should of read the website first. With some good coaching and senior players around him Adam could be the centre cover we need, could probably slip in to second row too.

Doran is quality and (at 6'1, 16st), is of a similar height and weight to Thackray and James, so maybe he would be an option in the front row as well. He has a reputation as a line-breaker (apparently !).
Should be interesting to see how he goes on Sunday. I think it is testament to how far we've come in the last 3 years, that a player of Doran's quality has to trial for us before being offered anything.
Good to hear that local talent is also being invited to training.

Not heard much Nicholson in all honesty but I hope he can prove to be the quality we need in the centre. Doran was always a handful at Widnes and could prove to be a useful addition to an already impressive pack. Nice to hear some updates on the injury front too

doran is another penalty machine everytime i have seen him he loses his head we already have this in catic. So if we do sign him get ready for barrow defending for most of the game as we start clocking up 20+ penaltys a game

He's a good young lad from walney. Played for Cumbria also I think. Always got his face and name in the paper when playing.

If he has anywhere near the impact of Catic, then he'll be a massive asset.
- penalties or not.

Doran is known for making plenty of yards.......for the opposition.
Even the Widnes fans wouldn't defend his penalty count. I personally can see nothing in this deal for Barrow, he's a decent player but no tbetter than any of our current backrow, gives too many penalties and has none of the maverick abilities of players like Thackary, Catic etc the mitigate those issues.
As has also been said though, nice to see players like this been made to prove themselves. In the not too distant past they would have got a contract on reputation before the club had laid eyes on them.

so you don't mind players giving away penaltys then.or you one of these supporters who think its the referees fault for giving the penaltys in the first place i.e all the supports giving the ref abuse on sunday for sinbinning catic which was the correct decission

I'd ask if YOU are one of those supporters do nothing to encourage the players and only shout abuse when they make mistakes. Of course in an ideal world a player shouldn't talk back to the ref or give away daft penalties. All players (especially forwards) give away penalties. Ned is actually a great example of how a player can turn this around. His discipline was greatly improved last season and he scored 22 tries to-boot.
Of course, as soon as Doran gives a penatly away he'll be instantly branded a 'penalty machine' again. I just don't see the point in slagging players off before they've even pulled on a shirt or even been offered a contract ! I remember similar comments about Thackray. I'm sure the comments will re-surface after his first bad game.
Doran made 29 appearances for Widnes last season, won Supporters player of the year, played for Ireland and was voted into the Championship Dream Team (along with Ned as it happens).
"Aye, but he's a penalty machine" .....

i thought thackray was a great signing as he shown already in the two games he has played.
but doran is a player we dont need i would of prefered to of kept noone instead but second row's we have plenty we need another half back and a back up centre

I agree we should have retained Noone. Good to hear he's got another club now (Oldham). Do we need another centre if we sign Doran? Ned did a fine job there last season

its that question again is ned a centre or second row if there is no centre's available then fine sign doran and use ned in the second row but halifax have just signed mike ratu who will go very well in this league so i think there are players out there but the club are not panicing there is plenty of time first league game is not till the 19th march
