Would assume it will be a strong side, Haynsey & Mr T played last
week so not sure if they will be this week, but I'll go with:

1. Haynes/Lynch?
2. Wilson/Sutton?
3. Straugheir
4. Waterman
5. Tuffour/Bush?
6. CT
7. Pressley
8. Freer
9. Lee
10. Benno
11. Garside
12. Esders
13. Ed Smith

14. Stampy
15. Stearman
16. Jones
17. Barron
18. Lewis

Why are Saints also playing Widnes away on the same day? Will any Saints fans bother coming to York? What sort of team will they send? Seems a bit odd.

They are sending a young, but very talented team going by what DW
has said in the RL papers this week.

Still seems odd, as will bring poor support. It's not even mentioned as a fixture on Saints website, just the Widnes game with 3 days and counting!

Not about Sunday, but spotted this on the BBC sport:

York City Knights have missed out on signing centre or second-row
forward Dylan Nash for 2011.
The 24-year-old Australian has agreed to stay with Halifax where he has
been since leaving Gateshead in 2009.
Knights coach Dave Woods told BBC Radio York: "He told my son [who plays
for the Knights] that he just could not refuse the offer that was made to him.
"It was a very good offer and it was something we wouldn't be able to match
so we're resigned to losing him now."

Woods, who initially brought Nash to England from Australia, added: "I know
the sort of money he's talking about and it's just absolutely ridiculous.
Like I've said before, we want players who want to come to the club.
I've got a lot of time for Dylan and I would have loved to have had him but if
he's wanting the cash rather than everything else that goes with it then he's probably
not really right for us."

Woods is not actively looking for any more players at the moment but he
said he is staying aware of what options are available.

"We're not really out looking at the moment. We're happy with the squad
that we've got. "We know we've got a couple of clubs that we've spoken to
that are prepared to give us some players on a dual registration and
Castleford being one of them.

"They rang me and said they would like to give us a couple if we would
want them. We will be keeping an eye on that and see how it goes."

Saints may bring poor support but the side they bring will be top quality.( I believe Saint Helens have an obligation to Widnes with regard to playing at the council constructd stadium in Widnes while their new stadium is finished.)
Dave Woods was part of the Saint Helens youngsters successful 2009 tour to Australia - It is interesting to note that in the latest Academy squad named to represent England, only the Castleford hooker Daryl Clark, who recently played against us,is selected while Saints have nearly half-a-dozen in the squad.( One or two who were on the tour.Academy Squad )

If we hope and expect our young players to improve week-on-week then I am also expecting better attendances week-on-week.Over five hunderd and sixty to beat, isn't it ?

The bottomless pit that is Halifax's piggy bank never ceases to amaze.
They tempted Ryan Clayton with bigger money and now Dylan Nash and, looking at their squad for 2011, they havent got a prayer of keeping everyone happy.
Pretty sure they've just signed young Ryan Fieldhouse from Leigh East, who's a good prospect.
Smacks of 'We're not desperate for him but we'll sign him so none of our rivals do'.
Give it half a dozen games and see who becomes available at Fax ; wink.gif

An attractive fixture despite the Widnes game and the chance to see future SL stars like Ben Karalius ( now, there's an RL name ! ), Jordan Case and Marcus Baines.
Would be nice to think that Saints might bring some of the young guns who look like being part of the SL set up this time like Jonny Lomax and Jamie Foster.
The sure thing is that they will play some attractive stuff, be well organised and be a stiff test for whatever side DW selects..

Cant understand woody,s comments there what does he expect good players to do play for nothing that's what they are in it for.If its the club he is thinking of firstly why write to featherstone supporters asking them to go drink at his pub rather than the club bar isn't that putting money first i rest my case

I have to say in agreeing with the invitation to Fev fans from DW to call enroute to the match he's got a living to make and they'll still have plenty of time to enjoy the liquid refreshments @Bar 13 during and after the match, can't see why he can't extend the invites to all travelling fans, and as for players going for clubs offering higher cash incentives Ilike many people would not complain providing the payments can be justified and not in bringing the club to it's knee's, we have seen clubs going this way to many times and I personally would like to support my own local team.

The bottomless pit that is Halifax's piggy bank never ceases to amaze.

I read a piece by Martyn Sadler recently questioning the potential conflict of interest regarding Nigel Wood and the assessment of Super League Licence applications.Wood was at Halifax for 5 years.
Winning the Grand Final would appear to have saved them after a difficult year. One of their sponsorships - Links Telecom - ended. They were knocked out of the Northern Rail cup by Hunslet. They were removed from the Challenge Cup after playing Ostick who was ineligible. The coach was suspended and there was talk of a crisis as the seson approached the run-in.Then there was the situation with Barlow where the RFL gave the okay but then
Halifax apologised to Sheffield Eagles

Dylan Nash won the double at Halifax - the Northern Rail 9's and the Grand Final - I cannot see that being bettered this year, for them, nor can I see Halifax gaining a Super League Licence. It was a far bigger challenge for him to come to York and be part of the burgeoning club with a coach where the supporters are not as critical as the Halifax fans have been about Calland.Dylan would also know that DW would bring out the best in him and keep him disciplined - as well as increase the number of females through the turnstiles.
The good news is that there is money still to spend and the club can see how the season begins to take shape, which players become available/want to come to York and what positions need strengthening.

Yes, I also put the Nash bit on here very early Monday ('Today' topic), this bit
was more about the dual reg stuff & DW's reaction to the cash Fax seem to be
throwing about.

It is unfair that Halifax have taken advantage of being allowed to breach the salary cap to generate more money for themselves by winning the Grand Final.
