BIG SIGNING: Town’s new commercial manager Barry Scholey, from DearhamThe club have recruited Dearham-based Barry Scholey as commercial manager in a bid to significantly boost income.
The 35-year-old has extensive experience in the banking industry and has worked for the commercial arm of financial institutions such as HSBC and HBOS.
Town chairman Dave Bowden said: “He’s probably our biggest signing of the year. The whole club benefits from this one.
“We have been looking for a fairly experienced person for a while now, and Barry fits the bill. We are delighted to welcome him to the club.
“We have a lot of plans to move commercial revenues forward. We have managed to keep the club fairly solvent mostly through cutting costs, but you can only go so far with that.”
Scholey has already started work at Town, who could be set to enjoy their best season for several years after recruiting the likes of Cumbrian trio Marc Jackson, Graeme Mattinson and Karl Olstrum.
Scholey said: “I’m excited to join a club with massive potential and one which has a sound financial platform from which to launch.”

Best of luck to Barry and hopefully he can generate some much needed funding for the club.
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

He's come in at a good time so hopefully the team will give him the tools to work with i.e. results and promotion.
Good luck and welcome.
