The 42 22 scoreline really reflect the game today. I think Batley did us fans proud. I can only pull positives out of todays match. I just think the 'full time' players fitness started to tell in the last 10 or 15 minutes.

Will there be a report or at least the scoring sequence? No shame in putting 20+ pat a super league team

do you mean 'didnt' reflect the game ??
I agree much closer than the score suggests and yes the last 15 minutes
showed the difference in fitness. We spilled some ball at key times and
we were in it right until that time. Some dodgy ref decisions cost us and
some sloppy play giving them position, but the lads were awesome today and
Cas knew they had been in a game. Proud to wear a batley shirt today !!!

They certainly did us proud and I think the scoreline was probably about right. Even though we were still level pegging well into the second half, the difference in fitness / strength etc was clear to see. They were making 15 yards at every tackle and we were pinned in our own half for long periods. That said, we defended well and didn't make it easy for ourselves with fumbled kick offs/ etc. On the whole I am very pleased with todays performance and it doesn't change my high expectations for the season. Thought Toothill played really well going forward today.
Well done lads, can't wait for the proper games to begin.

Agree with what you guys have allready said. The fitness did show in the end but you were not disgraced at all. I reckon you will have a good season this year. You played some good rugby and did well.

After the results of three friendlies it looks as though we will have more than decent squad for this campaign.
After competing with Cas, for three parts of the game before running out of steam, imagine what the result could have been if they were fully fit.Karl needs to set a high standard in this regard.Doing so could result in an incredible season.

Nothing wrong with the fitness just the difference between 20 players that train all week and 20 players that train and hold down full time jobs. The squad is not only the best I have seen at the Mount but also probably the fittest

Well, we have a new fitness coach now, so we shouldn't be found wanting, particularly at our own level. On the subject of refereeing decisions, thought we actually got the rub of the green a few times in the second half, TBF.

any news on paul mennels injury
Extract from YEP: -
Stand-off Paul Mennell is Batley Bulldogs' main concern with less than two weeks to go before they begin their Northern Rail Cup title defence.
Mennell was hurt during the 42-22 pre-season defeat at Castleford Tigers two days ago.
Coach Karl Harrison said: "He got a bad dead leg in the first 10 minutes.
"But we have got nearly a fortnight before our first game, so we've a chance of getting him back on board."
The defeat at Cas was Bulldogs' only setback in four trial games and Harrison added: "We have had a pretty good pre-season and we've come through it more or less unscathed.
"We played very well on Sunday. They only pulled clear when I made a lot of changes in the final 20 minutes.
Prolific try-scoring winger/full-back Johnny Campbell played as a trialist against Cas. Harrison said he has been training with Bulldogs for two weeks, pending a court appearance.
