The Lillestrøm Lions Rugby League Klubb have now changed names and they couldn't be happier. The Lions club have now been taken over by Flisbyen Ballklubb who are also from Lillestrøm. The move has been in the works for months now and has now changed the face of rugby league in Scandinavia. Now that the club has been taken over by Flisbyen they have become a much more established club as well as having access to greater sponsors. Not only do the club have a massive financial backing from the new owners but it also means that this club is now the biggest rugby club of either code in Norway, which is not bad at all for a club and a league that has only been running for 2 years. I say whenever you feel like league is going nowhere remember the places that you cant see everyday are slowly but surely catching up. In 2 years rugby league now has the biggest rugby club in Norway with the Flisbyen Broncos, and they also hold the title of having the worlds northern most rugby club of either code with the Tromsø Polar Bears. Add to that the fact that this year the rugby league comp in Norway will have a 5 team league with a big name sponsor (YIT a global consturction company) than things are looking pretty nicely for our game up north........I mean waay north

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG
Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT
Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG
Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

This sounds really good. Too often you hear of developments in these nations and you are cynical to what it really means, often being a few people running about on a pitch.

Widnes Vikings should set it up as a catchment area!

I can see some genuine mileage to that. Junior tour to widnes, a few training sessions etc - some nice development and publicity all round. The rfl should offer a cash incentive to clubs who help out developing areas in this way but i can also see real benefits for ambitious clubs in the long term. The crusaders will cover palenstine - oh hang on ;)
