Can we beat Halifax? im anticipating a close game but think that ultimately Halifax might just have a bit too much for us.Certainly expecting a much closer game than the infamous cup tie that never was last season.

It would be a good achievement to get within 20 points of Fax. They have bags of pace in the threequarters, a handful of huge forwards and a couple of excellent playmakers. Swinton's defence will be severely tested all over the field.
It will be very interesting to see what team Steve McCormack plumps for. Hopefully it will include Tommy Gallagher.

Halifax 18 man squad inclusive of 2 former Lions: Greenwood; White; Worrincy; Paterson; Haley; Jones; Black; Gannon; Watene; S Barlow; Fairbank; Chandler; J Barlow; Smith; Clayton; Bannister; Beswick; Penkywicz
Notably no Mikele Azuie, which can only help.
Who will the Lions field? As a guess I'll go for something like - Mort; Foxen, Thompson, Dodd, Reay; Ainscough, Watson; Morrison, Smith, Holland, D Hawkyard, Gallagher, Joseph. SUBS Forber, Ashall, Johnson, Cuniffe.

A nice big mobile squad full of pace tonight, I feel we are going to be using the ball and width of the pitch tonight.

This will be a close one. I am going to plump for Swinton. I think your fortunes are about to change this year starting with a win against Fax. Fax will be on the decline this year. You also have one of the best players in the championship at No 9. If he clicks on the night Fax will find it hard going.

Swinton 16 - 14 Halifax at half time, sounded like the Lions only got going in the last 10 minutes of the half. Lets hope for more of that in the second half.

FT: Swinton 22 - Halifax 28. It sounded like Swinton pushed them all the way tonight and came back from 10 - 0 down.

Pipped on the line, final score Swinton 22 - 28 Halifax.
Great effort, just a lack of composure proving costly and am I allowed to admit a slightly bitter taste of a big opportunity just missed. Confirmation that Steve McCormack is clearly doing a lot of things very right and just needs to build up that inner confidence of the players that they can win a tight game against a good side when the opportunity presents itself like it did tonight. Yes you need the hard work, commitment, fitness and basic ability etc, much of which has not been there in a Lions squad for a long time, but when you've put all that in and are in contention, a cool head and good decisions often make all the difference. Don't hit the panic button - realise we now have a good side ourselves. Admittedly a massive step forward for a lot of the squad from what they have been used to in the last few years.
Build on this performance and Championship One had better watch out.
