Great news. Definately don't want any night matches at this time of year.
Let's get behind the lads today and show our appreciation for a squad who have clearly worked very hard in the off season and who ALL gave their time yesterday to represent the Club in Spindles yesterday.

COME ON YOU ROUGHYEDS

Really looking forward to today's game. Conditions look really windy so kicking is going to be extremely difficult but there doesn't seem to be much rain around now.

Great performance today. Our defence was absolutely brilliant, Hunslet were on our line constantly and created very little. They look like they could be in for a very tough season if that's how they are going to perform.

Roden,Noone and especially Clough ran the show today. Whenever we got the ball we looked good and as I've already said defence was superb. Bradbury looks good out wide very big and strong and Gillam scored the try of the season full length of the pitch. Team selection seemed a bit off but they turned out to be the right decisions. Heaton and Lucas ran their blood to water working the ball off our own line. Diveney's tackling was superb, crunched Haughey three or four times and linked up well with Ratty again. The pack all contributed again in wearing Hunslet down , excellent signs with Sutton and Wood Hulme bashing off quality players. Isherwood and M.Roden struggled in the first half but both improved in their second spells.

Ref was terrible and just listened to March as usual, whenever they wanted a penalty they got one.

Crowd was pretty poor as well at a smidge under 700.

Can't wait to test ourselves against a quality team in Halifax.

Steady on Brooksy! I don't know about try of the season one game in! It was a beauty though and it looks good on that left wing with Gillam and Bradbury, it was a good pass from Bradbury to put Gillam away up the touchline and he took his two tries well too. How good was it to see four of the five tries scored by Oldham born lads?
Thought Clough coming on was a huge turning point as he ripped Hunslet to pieces up the middle with his speed from acting half back. Can't fault M Roden though as he got through a hell of a lot of tackling in that last twenty minutes of the game.
Thought the ref was very poor and Hunslet had enough ball in the second half to win two games and looked clueless. How sweet was it when we soaked up 24 tackles in a row on our own line and went up the other end for the match winner!
Laugh of the day was March spewing that kick in front of the posts - Ashy used to back-heel those over!!

Defence was superb today. Thought we looked a little naive early on, when conceding tries to two last tackle plays. After that we suddenly kicked into gear. The lads defended like trojans in the second half, and somehow, with hardly any possession, managed to match Hunslet at two tries each. Any other result would have been a travesty. How on earth do refs get constantly conned by the March brothers?
Anyone who didn't go missed a really solid performance, by a group of lads who seem willing to give blood for one another.

Come on you Roughyeds

Hi Roughyedz

The rain stayed off for the match until a few drops around 10 minutes from the end. A pity you decided not to go as you missed a good hard game and a terrific performance from the Oldham lads. It was worth seeing that performance even if it had rained all game. Do yourslef a favour and get along to the next one even if it means getting wet. On yesterday's performance it will be well worth it.

Its the Northern Rail cup, I'm puzzled how many you are expecting?
2008 V Rochdale at Boundary Park was only just over 1,000.
V Swinton as 834.
2009 V Rochdale 1,028 at BP.
Where do you get the expectation of 1,500 from?
Some League games maybe but not pre season friendlies, which is what the Northern Rail Cup is in all but name!

It's a shame you didn't come. You missed a cracking game! I love it there. Close to the action, able to stand and move around to follow the flow of the play.
