That man loves the sound of his own whistle. The ref and the conditions were the same for both sides. We were beaten by a dominant pack which in turn gave the halfbacks the freedom they needed. Leigh were very smart and played a very clever game. Today was a good yard stick and has brought us back down to earth with bump. The grip on the trophy has been loosened but we can still qualify for the knockouts.

The ref - whistler happy at times - typical Ganson. Give him an opportunity to whistle and he will! Both teams were dumb enough at times to test that theory. A touch pedantic and some decidions lacked clarity. But we've seen enough of him to know how he refs a game. It's daft to keep chelping back at him!!
The conditions - Terrible. But Batley appeared to have a game plan. unfortunately when it didn't yeild any results they didn't appear to have a plan B! The more expansive, composed and intelligent rugby came from Leigh. Defensively Bately looked disrupted and didn't keep their pattern at times. Offensively it was pretty much one out stuff! When Batley tried to expand mistakes were a plenty. Leigh on t'other hand were able to get it wider and create more pressure on the Batley outside 4!
The result was about right and reflected the game as this neutral saw it!

Today was poor, we didn't look owt like what we were in previous game's. Thought the ref was poor but for both sides.
A trip to Blackpool again looks a long way off now.

Ganson played no part in the result other than from the dismissal of Mennel led directly to their try.
I actually thought at half time that we had a really decent, if undeserved chance to win. The second 20 in the first half was defensively ok. What was disappointing for me was our complete lack of ideas going forward and our lack of discipline. After our try early in the second half, I expected to go on and apply lots more pressure, but we did not respect possession nor the referee.
No-one stood out in attack and we made little of the clear advantages of the slope and gale going down hill.
Still, next week is another game and a difference performance is expected.

Never seemed in the game today and that man ganson makes ronnie and hewer look like closet batley fans!
defence and game plan resilience was always going to be the key today, although i would prefer the little slip ups to happen now rather than 3-4 games down the line?

You cant deny any of the statements i make are not true , you were beaten by a BETTER Leigh team ,i dont think even you Dogs fans will deny this ?As for Arrogance, not from me it may sound like that to you ,but i had expected a Sterner test, again you may have to beat Fax ,or no Charlie Land for you this year, now THATS ARROGANCE.Arrogance is a trait this lad is familiar with! hell fire

I can certainly deny that Mennell should have been sent off. Even objectively, it was never a red card - your lad ducked into the tackle and, TBF, several Centurions should have been cooling off in the sin bin in the last quarter of the game. You cant deny any of the statements i make are not true , you were beaten by a BETTER Leigh team ,i dont think even you Dogs fans will deny this ?As for Arrogance, not from me it may sound like that to you ,but i had expected a Sterner test, again you may have to beat Fax ,or no Charlie Land for you this year, now THATS ARROGANCE.
That said, Leigh more than deserved the victory and would have won comfortably no matter who was in the middle. I love your humility, Charlie - but good luck for the season anyway.

As I've said on another thread, it certainly wasn't malicious but you've no chance in this day and age of getting away with sticking your forearm across someone's chops with a lazy arm when they've stepped inside you.I can certainly deny that Mennell should have been sent off. Even objectively, it was never a red card - your lad ducked into the tackle and, TBF, several Centurions should have been cooling off in the sin bin in the last quarter of the game.
The win was far more simple than I could have dreamed of. As Alan mentioned, Batley are a real bogey team for us at home, never mind away, so any win at the Mount is a very welcome one. Still a LONG time to go in the season so certainly not the time to panic about your performance.

Thanks for your good wishes Mr Chairman ,dont get me wrong ,i like Batley ,and i love coming to the Mount ,i still thought Mr Mennell got what he deserved , but i still think your not a bad team ,not many will come up here and win , i seriously hope you do well this season ,as i think most Dogs fans are OK i had a goodchat with acouple yesterday ,good luck for the coming Season.Charlie.I can certainly deny that Mennell should have been sent off. Just watched the game and Mennels high shot was a sending off. Our lad side stepped and Mennel swung out with a clenched fist. Nanyn was unlucky to be sin binned but Staurt should have been binned for the holding down infront of our stick so sort of evens it up. I fear one of your lads will be up infront of the commitee for the tackle on Jimmy Taylor. I would expect two games for him and Mennel. I have watched some of your pse season stuff and yesterday was not a fair view of what Batley can do. Get your chins up Dogs it's only the start of the season.

It is go to Blip.tv type in Batley Bulldogs v Leigh Centurions and you can watch the whole game. There is no commentary/sound for technical reasons so I reccomend you have your favourite radio station on in the background.
Ganson clearly saw the Mennell incident but was unsighted for the far worse incident when J Taylor was dumped on his head in the first half.

"Paul Mennel was harshly sent off for a high tackle" Not my words but those of Dave Craven, the Yorkshire Posts' chief Rugby League reporter. From where I was sat, in the short stand and with a similar view of the the incident to Dave Craven I have to agree with him. I may be wrong (I often am), but I expect to see a 'sending off sufficient' verdict. However, if the first half tackle that saw Goulden (or was it Taylor?) carried off had prompted a red card there would have been no complaint from me. The odd thing was that the ref put the incident that he did see on report, but acted on the incident that he clearly did not see.
I read Dave Craven's report in the Yorkshire post and I think it was pretty well balanced.
His (and my) conclusions would be:
1) The Leigh forwards domitated ours and the best side won.
2) Steve Ganson had an atrocious game full of flagrant errors and non-decisions.
3) If the RFL are going to change the way the game is refereed, especially around the ruck, can they please tell everyone (especially the players and coaches) before the season starts.

And when Lythes was dumped on HIS head in the second.

we were beaten by a better side on the day, who adapted to the conditions a lot better on the day.
