Just looking at the results from several friendly matches and this weekends first games in the NR Cup I think it shows what a tough league this is going to be this year. Several teams have had good results. Oldham beat our neighbours 50 - 0 and then today saw off Hunslet from the Championship. Swinton beat Leigh in a friendly and then pushed Halifax all the way on Friday evening. Even Gateshead, who we play next week at DP, look as if they could be a surprise packet after pushing Sheffield all the way today before losing 20 - 32. Town v Haven games are always going to be tough games and the likes of South Wales Scorpions, Rochdale and Donny (even though they lost heavily to Featherstone) could prove troublesome. Keighley look as if they are going to be a front runner in our league as well. The only weak link that I can see, at present, is the Skolars but as we know they could quite easily have 5 or 6 Harlequins SL players in their team at some point through the season.
I don't think there are going to be too many "easy" games.

I remember when .............................
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

It's going to be a great year, there are four or five teams who could put in a very serious claim for the league. Gateshead and London look like they could improve significantly whilst Donny have made several shrewd signings.I'm not to sure on South Wales, they've lost a very good coach and will they be allowed to use as many duel regs as they did last season?
Swinton look the favourites due to the names they have brought and their early season form looks very good but everyone will be out to beat them, can they cope with that pressure?
Roll on the start of the season.
