What is the greater betting scandal? The one involving Ryan Tandy? Or the fact that more clubs are getting into bed with betting sponsors and casinos? If the club is sponsored by a betting agency whose sponsorship is obviously aimed at promoting their "product" is it any wonder more people get involved. I wonder what percentage of the betting goes to its promoters, i.e. our commentator? Are they on a commission? Probably not. BUT Oh for the days when we could watch a match and the only commentary would be about our beloved game of Rugby League.

I think the NRL's link with Betfair - The Rabbitohs sponsorship deal with StarCity & Storm's sponsorship deal with Crown.
Though I personally dislike gambling interests being connected to pro sport, they appear to be the inevitable cash target for clubs. As long as the rule about non involvement,(by everyone in the game),in betting on the game then there is no difference between advertising their product & a manufactured/media product.

There was a bit in this month's RLW about this. I think they mentioned Penrith's ground being renamed after Centrebet. I guess if the betting companies are willing to put money into the sport, clubs would be hard pressed to turn them down. One thing that I do find annoying is on the Channel 9 commentaries when Ray Warren will infrom us of the latest in game odds. Very annoying, and highly ironic when spoken by a man who had a well publicised problem with gambling.

I couldn't have put it better myself. Thanks.
