Halifax have a received a huge boost to their Super League bid, with Calderdale council securing funds for further development of the Shay. £120,000 has been secured to undertake maintenance and improvements on items such as the Stadiums PA System, Fencing and Perimeter fencing.
The news comes as a huge boost to Halifax who bid for a place into Super League just before Christmas.
The funding has come at an ideal time. The council has been very supportive in recent times and we are thrilled to see a continued improvement being made. The stadium is already one of the best at our level and would be up there with the best in Super League. These improvements will increase the capacity a little bit, as well as making the whole match day experience even more enjoyable.” Said Club Chairman, Michael Steele
The news also comes at a time when other Clubs, including several in Super League, have found stadium funding a difficult process.
“We can only concentrate on our own bid, but it does seem that recently we have been making all the right noises. We believe our bid is very strong and we feel we have earned our right to join the elite league. We will keep going and trying our best in the next few weeks, but the final decision will be that of the RFL.”

Oh to have such generous taxpayers and council !
You have to see through the spin though. It sounds like a lot of the money is to finish off or repair shoddy workmanship. One of their stands has been closed for months due to crumbling terracing.

I would treat "promise" of funding in much the same way as clubs such as Halifax, Widnes and Leigh have treated the "promise" of a new stadium by Salford, Cas and Wakefield. No doubt a very convenient statement to brandish in the lead up to the franchise awards process.

this isnt a dig but at least halifax have positive spins coming off about their stadium where as here at barrow we hardly hear anything about any funding or grants being applied for or any news on floodlights or ground improvements in the pipeline.even if halifax are patching up botched work at least they are trying to keep the stadium to a certain standard.apologies for being so negative but people are getting very disalusioned with what the actual plans are for the ground because after having a few cracking seasons and seeing little work done down at the ground if after the prize money the club has made in these seasons work still cant be done then i dont see how the club are going to be able to upgrade the ground at allOh to have such generous taxpayers and council !

I don't think Halifax RL have much (if anything) to do with the improvements. They just pay to play there (along with Halifax Town FC).this isnt a dig but at least halifax have positive spins coming off about their stadium where as here at barrow we hardly hear anything about any funding or grants being applied for or any news on floodlights or ground improvements in the pipeline.even if halifax are patching up botched work at least they are trying to keep the stadium to a certain standard.apologies for being so negative but people are getting very disalusioned with what the actual plans are for the ground because after having a few cracking seasons and seeing little work done down at the ground if after the prize money the club has made in these seasons work still cant be done then i dont see how the club are going to be able to upgrade the ground at all
I agree with much of what you say though.

I think that the £120k only scratches the surface of some very important work that needs to be done. A report in the Courier which has since been removed suggested that there was a lot more money needed to complete the remediation works on the North Stand.
Widnes Vikings RLFC - We were better than you ever will be!!!!!
Sky Sports wrote about the Widnes Vikings:
The RFL wrote about Widnes Vikings RLFC:with the RFL having pledged to conditionally award a licence to a Championship club, it would be a surprise if they do not succeed.
it is surely now only a matter of time before Widnes are back in the big time.

Agreed , We could do with hearing something or seeing some remedial workings & I dont mean demo work either.

It is true the north stand needs work doing to it. Since dropping out of super league we have only opened the stand 4-5 times max.. No team in this division brings enough fans to justify opening it so it has kind of been left to one side so to speak. The £120,000 WILL go towards repairing that stand as well as the other minor bits of work. The council recognising that if Fax do get to SL the stand will need to be operational and also FC Halifax are on the way back up the leagues and will soon also need use of the stand if their plans work out too.
