A lot of attacks which emanate from t'Internet, come from people who loathe or have a grudge against Bill Gates. Your OS (Operating System) usually floored with back door entries to allow viruses, trojans, worms etc. Minimise that risk by elimating Microsoft Internet Explorer and download Google Chrome. It is far superior to IE and is much faster. This is a personal opinion and has nothing to do with the owners of this board, TotalRL.com.

I have no experience with Mozilla, but Chrome is very fast and utilises Java script engine. Try it out, you can always uninstall afterwards, if you don't like it.

I know that I downloaded the latest version (beta) of MIE and it screwed my PC up. Kept flashing all the time and it took ages for a fix to come out for IE9, so I looked around for a suitable alternative. Google Chrome is featured in Webuser Issue 28, January, if you want to read the review first.

Whole-heartedly concur. I've not used IE for about 7 years, it's garbage. I used Firefox for a few years but I've used Chrome for the last 2, maybe. Much much better than either of the other two in terms of protection and usability.

Don't assume because you've changed browser to a less popular one that you're safe - that is called security by obscurity. If you're still in doubt search for "chrome vulnerabilities".

FWIW I've used a few different including ie since launch and I've never had a security issue. The OP is a little disingenuous in saying that the attacks are an attack on Bill Gates. The reason why there are so many attacks is all to do with surface area - you can p*ss off more people by targetting the most popular browser - it's a back-handed compliment. As a browser share grows - so does the interest from the attacker.

You're more likely to invite the attacker in than have them kick the door down - so just keep guard on what you're clicking and saying yes to - there is no fix for stupidity.

For the record I have a Mozilla install which I find a little unstable and as of yesterday internet explorer 9 RC which is the most stable and fastest I've used.

Have a good weekend !

One Famous Trojan distributed as a Word Document was Melissa, when this 'virus' was disassembled it stated "Get your act together Bill Gates", David Smith I think it was him was jailed.

As a matter of interest, I think that Bill Gates deserved to be where he is today, he is a self made Billionaire and I would love to meet the guy.

I agree Tez, there's no doubt he's a very clever man, and from humble beginnings also. However, I think there's an element of computer users (who are also very clever) that seriously disapprove of the monopoly that Microsoft has on the computer market, and the often underhand tactics that they use to peddle their sometimes inferior software. There are similar vibes towards Steve Jobs and Apple, but for software, read devices.

Agreed about monopolising. I believe it all started when he took MSDOS operating system, but from his beginnings he built Microsoft from the ground up and no doubt there are people who do not like Bill because of his wealth.Personally I couldn't give a toss about his wealth I just think he is an interesting guy who does not tolerate fools, so I guess I'll never meet him (joke).
